can you use wire you find in your home or business walls

Had a local kid ask me to look at his system and wiring ..it looked neat..but he used the kind of wire that is in someones home..I told him he shouldn't. ..but honestly I don't know if you can...can you..It was solid copper wire he used for ground and power

sounds legit for a smaller system and if your dirty poor and cant afford 20 foot of 4 ga. or some 1/0. btw, what gauge was the wire he was using? and was it the kind for outlets? like a 110 wall socket kind of wire?

Depends on the current draw. Since homes run on 110v or 240v then it carries less amps to make the same power. So long as it can carry the amps he need there is no problem

wire is wire. The main reason we use stranded wire is because it is much easier to bend and it isnt prone to breaking from vibrations in the car. Find out the size and look up the amperage ratings and go from there to see if it is safe to use.

Isn't current draw all gonna depend on the size of the wire anyways. I mean I got 12g wire for my subs, its great stuff, seems to be close to 100% copper, and there's two wires attached together in one jacket, so its perfect for subwoofers

I don't think I get what you're saying. Wires themselves don't pull power.

Yes but the size of the wire limits the current flow, for instance1/0g wire can usually handle between 250-300A, you wont be able to put that much current thru a 12g wire, you will have too much resistance, and will have problems.

You can take a trip to LOWES for some speaker wire, and some power/ ground wire if say, you need some real quick, or you dont have shops near you.

SAE 1/0 is STILL 1/0.. nut like the above mentioned, the flexibility will be sucky, so dont think you going to wrap it around much of anything.

Anyway, I got some 3/0 SAE wire and its massssssive, but basically is a huge biotch to solder, bend, put terminals on just... aggrivating. So i wouldnt buy power wire unless you had to.

Speaker wire on the other hand, LOWES has like 10awg thermistat wire, for like 50c a foot.. love it i had a spool of American bass speaker wire, and its nothing compared to the LOWES. although fitting multiple wires into woofer push terminals can be another headache, if your using beefier wire.
