Local shop says anything but JL is crap LOL

So I talked to a few guys around here and they told me about a local shop I could go to, to find some bigger ANL fuses, holders etc. So I decide to stop by the shop and see what they have. Just a pretty normal shop tbh, JL, Alpine, Rockford, and Keenwood. The guy there said he's been in the business for 20 years now and was telling me about his experience etc. He seemed like a decent guy, until I told him I was getting rid of my 4 15" kicker L7's because they can't do what I want them to, and I was looking into, DD, Ascendant, Fi and Re subs. He then was like... why not JL? They use the most modern technology and all of those brands you just named are junk and use an obsolete style of woofer now days. He said JL was "WORTH EVERY PENNY", and that they would outlast any sub out there on the market right now. Personally I use to be a fan of JL but I had too many bad experiences with them. I'm not a big fan of Kicker subs but they have done better in my setups then JL has. All I use to swear by was the W6, and the W7. But after trial and error I found many other subs to be much better IMO. Kicker isn't at the top of my list at all, which is why I am getting rid of them, but JL to me stops being loud at a certain point. It seemed no matter how much extra power I would add to them they just wouldn't get any louder.. they could handle the power, but the increase in power just didn't seem to do any good at all. I tried to google a DD vs JL thread but it was from 07 and to me it's a little outdated. Does anyone have any real life comparisons on the two so I can take the data and smack this guy in the face with them... or any data where is JL vs. any of the other brands I am wanting to switch to? Also he told me that Sundown amps are a "fkin" joke.. which I know to not be true lol... He was also putting down the SMD's, and all I had done is mentioned how I like them, that I just wouldn't be able to afford them, and he just went off about JL again lol.. I just think this guy is a JL fanboy and can't let them go.

He wasn't the salesman either.. he was their MECP Installer lol

Anyone else have anything I should say to this guy when I go back into his shop? lol If you want I could give you his shop info and you can tell him personally lol

Waste of time, don't go there unless you absolutely have to... Local shop near me is exactly as you described... Sad thing is they have been in business for "30years" and I still have to fix their wiring problems.

Wow I think JL paid shops to say that type of thing because I was told the EXACT same thing at one of our local shops...

Just don't listen to them, I didn't..

tell him you plan on running 3kw per woofer and see what he recommends then

Everyone has thier opinion, obiously, it is not true... If they do good work and are trustworthy, that is not a problem in my book, just stick to your guns... But if you question thier integrity, they might purposely screw up any install that is not JL related just to say "See, I told you EVERYTHING but JL is junk"

As far as fuses go, just a heads up, but like Install Bay ANL fuses run $.75-$.95 each their cost.

There is one thing to be said about going through a local shop for JL or Kicker or the like. If the sub dies they will give you a replacement on the spot (the shops I used to go to anyways) and they would take care of the whole warranty thing. Those shops use a generic pattern for systems and while they aren't to the level that many people here are at, they do provide people with systems which they can pound on constantly with no worry of voltage drop, burning up coils, or the like.

Unfortunately at this level when you break something it's almost always assumed that it is your fault. At that level it's the manufacturers fault. JL IMHO is worth EVERY PENNY, but every penny at the dealers pricing, not retail, if for no other reason than their warranty.

Just for reference, I have 3 12W6's from 1999 in my Caddy that have been running at almost double power since 99 and the surrounds have only just now started to crack.

My local shop is stuck on Memphis and it is supposedly the best thing since sliced bread lol. Anything that don't come from them is crap lol

JL does manythings to get there shops to downgrade other brands, a local shop around here actually downgraded Rockford and said buy JL, its better. Seems you now what you like man they cant tell you what you like. JL does make good quality products, but why on earth would you make a performance competition sub only take 1000rms and be in a single 3 ohm coil. I have heard many JL products my favorite to this day is the old school w6s. I will never buy JL ever in m y life unless its less then cost.
