The most stupid car audio rumors

Lawlz in most home cabniets sq guys will use 15" speakers or bigger. They are not the same as the car audio speakers we use for lowend output. Any sized speakers can be build for any frequncy bandwith within reason. So to say 18" speakers sound like crap on music is a little idiodic to say.

I can say I worked for a high end loudspeaker manufacturer. Car 18" drivers dont cut the mustard! Hands down. Super crazy mms of over 400 grams pushed by a 3" motor doesnt equal sq. It equals mud. Saying my comment is idiotic is a bit far flung. One 18" driver that has car potential/ also very good home potential is the aurasound nrt18 bad ass sub! Your right with in reason about any size driver an be built for a given bandwith. unfortunatley an 18" driver that play under 20hz up to 100hz -/+3 db is not the norm.. As by boy john bender might say "Not even close Bud"

a guy was playin his system at my job and me bein the basshead i am i went to check it out. here are the 2 more i got from him

Im not runnin my true setup cause i dont have the watts to :trippy: ok how does that even make sense. who buys a system and realize their amp is a couple hundred watts off from pushin the subs to their limit and they go out and buy a second set of subs till they can afford a bigger amp

ME: it sounds pretty ok

HIM: OK?! my amp is only 1/4 way up. :orly3::noob:

"under powering" a sub will damage it.

As a noob it's nice to know that it won't. I've always seen people say that it does. I didn't get how that was possible.

Sorry I did not word it right, there is this idiot I know who says it's impossible.

When in realty it is possible by sending the woofer a clipped channel.

not exactly. i read somewhere that a sub that can handle...either 3 or 4 times the power of the amp (cant remember which for sure) then you can clip that amp to all hell and the sub will not get damaged. forget where i read that tho.

and not sure if it has been said yet, but a dvc sub hits harder than a svc sub. lol

My sub is better cause it moves back and forth cause it is dual coil. Your sub only moves out cause it is single coil. Lawlz.

I cant figure out if people in here are

pro= you can blow a woofer by under powering it.

con= you cant blow a woofer under powering it.

Here is my take you can blow a 1000 watt sub with a 100 watt fairly quickly if the amplifiers is sending out any reasonable amount of dc voltage. A sub might be able to handle 1k of clean ac all day but fail quickly when getting 15 volts of dc.

the rumor was underpowerin a sub would blow it, since most people, noobs, dont know the difference between dirty, clean, clippin, and not clippin generalizes it. but no sub is blowable by underpowering with clean power unclipped. true story
