jg23
As you can see my engine is very dirty and I want to clean it. I would appreciate any tips you guys might have. A friend told me I could use a pressure washer but that the car has to be on, is this true. Thanks in advance Before After Can I put armor all on the plastic parts? mbdblue
pressure washer is fine, but Id wrap all the electrical components so they wont get wet. and I wouldnt have the car on at the time, your air intake doesnt like water too much... k3n12ock
I used to use engine bright, or whatever its called. They sell it at Advanced and Pep Boys (white can, orange cap IIRC). Spray the engine & bay down (not directly @ the electrical areas) then use pressure hose to wash it off. This was on factory cars though. As mentioned, I would tape off all your fuses etc. first before doing so. may03LT
This is the guide that I followed. Results: There isn't a before pic, don't really need one though, it looked pretty much like the pic in the first post. I wrapped the alt in foil. Also I didn't use their products, I got the equivalent locally.

Robert8252
I clean mine once a month. The engine has to be cold but does need to be running. I just use simple green with a brush and hose it off. Not bad for 105k miles IMO Edited August 28, 2010 by Robert8252 Quote 2013 F150 Crew Cab Old Build Log Feedback 2013 F150 Equipment - Some Awesome Stereo Sound Making Stuff

nautical7
Also just let it dry before starting just to be safe. And when applicable put something around your intake if it's in the open so it doesn't suck up any water when you start it. Post results with an after pic.
