Best way to clean engine... Engine is now clean!

Recommended Posts

As you can see my engine is very dirty and I want to clean it. I would appreciate any tips you guys might have. A friend told me I could use a pressure washer but that the car has to be on, is this true.

Thanks in advance

pressure washer is fine, but Id wrap all the electrical components so they wont get wet. and I wouldnt have the car on at the time, your air intake doesnt like water too much...

alt, bat, ECM or ECU (whichever you have and if its in the bay) any electrical molexes, etc.

I used to use engine bright, or whatever its called. They sell it at Advanced and Pep Boys (white can, orange cap IIRC). Spray the engine & bay down (not directly @ the electrical areas) then use pressure hose to wash it off. This was on factory cars though. As mentioned, I would tape off all your fuses etc. first before doing so.

I clean mine once a month. The engine has to be cold but does need to be running. I just use simple green with a brush and hose it off.
