SMD 18 vs DC LVL 5 18.....winner has been chosen on pg 9

both are bad ass woofers, its just prefrence honestly....I own the level 5s, and have heard the SMDs in person, but havent had a chance to run them yet... I love my subs but untill i run the SMDs i cant say which is better in my car.

Now steve, when i come out that way, if you want to toss 2 smds in my car and we can test direct swaps im down for it

sorry, i dont go to CACO. All those new forums, including a few others that recently sprouted up, are exactly like car audio.com and all you see when you go there is FUCK SMD. I have never given someone a solid reason to say that but it happens on a DAILY basis. Well i guess ill just stick with my own forum because if i dont see it, it didnt happen. I know a lot of people that talk shit on other forums are current members here and ive seen the backstabbing. There is so many backstabbers that i cant even keep up anymore so i guess ill have to live with it.

People accuse me of being cool but i have "changed"....well your views on people change when you see what they say about you when they dont think you can see it. You cant expect me to be the same fun lovin' guy with an open door to everyone when i have been done dirty by so many people.

People, i have never ran a level 5. I hear its great and people love them.

i can tell you this, i have had 2 RF 2500.1 BD's per sub, each birthed over 3300w........ran @ .7 ohms @ 15.6v with around 1400amps of alternator and 10 batteries to back it up (aka LOTS OF POWER) I have beat the HELL out of these subs since i got them and they are STILL PROTOTYPES. I dont even have production models. They are in PERFECT condition and i dont see any of that changing. 3500rms rating is there for the dumbasses who think they can just buy a super-sub and drop a million watts without knowing what they are doing but we ALL KNOW it can take WAY more then that. The SMD is a solid sub and sounds GREAT, even using my old ass box that i had since 2004. If it sucked, it would be laced with problems and you all would know it because you cant hide when your blowin smoke out your port and making youtube video's.

so far, no smoke, no flames, and only one time since January have i even had the slightest wiff of heat......and if you know my power supply situation in the Casino, that was probably why.

so anyway, buy a fucking DC, Buy an SMD, i dont care.......but dont be talking out of your ass when discussing either one. Rusty dont appreciate that any more then i do (or dont or whatever).

I would do dc though only because Ive heard a few dc setups and they were great, havent got to experience an smd yet

i will say this ive heard/of a few set ups with the SMDs and wasnt too impressed. they are some BADASS looking speakers and have awesome SQ but i was able to get LOUDER with half the subs and 1/4 of the power on my Level 5s...granted installation and vehicles play factor as always but numbers dont lie.

Trippi on my team..his hummer isnt a numbers monster...its more of a BASS IN YOUR FACE BADASS MOTHERFUCKIN INSTALL!!! and the Defiant Audio Hummer was pretty damn loud but numbers werent there. Also a member on my team Smokeumtires...hes got 4 SMDs walled...and IT GETS LOUD..HELLA LOUD...but i also have a member with 4 Level 5s walled...and IT GETS LOUD...i mean LOUD and hes still working on it..i can not leak any more info than that but its there.

heres what i see from these subs this vs that....the SMD is meant for loud ass play ALl day long and to be a little more efficient...with a 4 inch coil id expect that. the Level 5s is more SPL based but can play daily on music without an issue but the SMD will play a little longer due to what it looks..better cooling and bigger coil.

also i play mine DAILY and full tilt driving down the road...they love it...get a little smelly but thats just how DC is. i get loud on a daily bases but can throw up some numbers too at a comp.

really both are BADASS subs but for SPL the Level 5...for ALL DAY PLAY FULL TILT...SMD

due to asshats statement up above im a DC nuthugger but i will say the SMD and many other subs out there get my attention as well. but im loyal to my DC game. DD, AA, FI, RE..and so on have my respect as well

i will say this, as soon as someone does a PURE SPL build, you will see your numbers. So far everyone has built for groundpounding. That box built by defiant, sorry bro but that box was not right for any kind of number. I would NEVER put that port in the front. I have heard those before and they sound pretty good (port in front) but that doesnt do numbers at all. Hummers in general dont do good numbers.

If someone builds JUST for numbers and uses an SMD, i think you all will be surprised.

To the OP, I'm far from the smartest guy in the "room" on this subject, and while i cant break it down to any specific reason why one is better i can tell you what my experience with dc's and smd's got me. here's a little story....

My buddy put 1 smd 15 in the back of his ext cab s10 (cant remember the watts but i think it was like 3k), when i took my first test ride in it i could hardly breath when the bass was hitting, and after i got out of the truck all i could feel was my muscles twitching from how powerful that magnet is. now on the flip side his next set up was a wall with 2 15" dc xl's or 5's (cant remember sorry). now those two subs were a good bit louder than the smd but even with both in their it couldnt hold a candle to the destruction caused by that smd....

anyway moral of the story if you want to do very well on the meter buy the dc, if you just want a beast that freaks everyone out buy the smd's both are great subs but my vote is the smd. also as a side note if ur using that much power buy the smd because that 4in voice coil is nearly indestructable lol.

I must say i think its what you want to run. Yes the inout from other is good. But do your homework. Find out which one is right for what your runnin. ya know. I mean i have FI BL 18's On a Saz4500D Call me crazy but they take it. I plan on different subs. But im doin my homework. i dont wanna have to change subs do to to much power. Like right now. haha
