SMD 18 vs DC LVL 5 18.....winner has been chosen on pg 9

Nick just states facts...pure and simple.

I love my smd's

I would think the best way to judge which sub you would like better... Listen to em both before you buy.

I say this almost everyday on this forum, "it's all on what YOU like" these "brand A vs. Brand B" threads are all opinions.... On who likes what. Then an actual subwoofer tech guy like nick comes in and states FACTS, it turns into someone gettin butthurt about their product.

So ya

listen to what you like judge it by yourself.

Quality is all in how you take pictures ;) I have plenty of projects that look WAY better on camera then in person :D

crazy to fit so many in so little. Reminds me of some of the porns I've seen?

I like the SMD and all sounded way better than the btl's in steves ride, great sounding subs. But unless i see a direct drop in SMD gaining 2DB+ on something like the Level 5 SPL on music im not going to be convinced that it is the END ALL woofer and that NOTHING compares.

Now if were talking looks nothing is comparable :)

but i dont see it being a ridiculous gain over conventional (proven) designs.

I always see nick posting information no body here really understands haha.

For the price point, I'd rather buy level 5s. I could buy 2 and if they EVER needed to be refined I could buy like 10 recone or the price o 1 smd. Don't get all cry baby on us about me talkin the smd down, because I'm not. It's an awesome woofer, but it's not fo evryone.

And saying nothing compares to it, well, that's a bold statement. Also your crx argument is not really valid. Most everyone knows every crx peaks different.

Same year model, same trim, same everything can peak 5 - 8 hz different with the Sam set up

It has no edge...none.

There is no motor cooling technology, it isn't machined in house, it would not have the thermal capacity of the smd, the suspension will never be as linear, it will never move as much linear. Linearity is all that matters, if it is not linear it is distortion. Period.

The BL curve is far from parabolic as the SMD is....if a regular SGLC design was that great we would have made the SMD that in production (Remember the SMD from 3 years ago with the double stack of 11.25" magnets and the regular top plate...yeah that is WAY cheaper to build), but we decided not to because supergauss is leaps and bounds ahead of a standard SGLC design.

Why would we spend the time and effort in machining all of this stuff in house and building something RADICALLY different when we could build something for 1/4 of the cost of the SMD and still sell it for the same money?

Make 4 times the profit, and take a step back 15 years in time in technology...makes sense to me. Sign me up. I'd love to turn 400% profit in my shop on a woofer. That'd be sweet.

The comparison is, it is not comparable. Nothing is comparable to the SMD...it's just the truth.

Unless the smd's magnet was repalced with plutonium acid, the coils, cone, etc were all made of something other than wires, foam, rubber, etc then you can't say nothing is comparable to the smd. Technally every speaker is, because they run on the same basics of a magnet, coils cone etc.

i used to think a band pass was something you were around your neck or something.

is one magnet on smd subwoofers pushing and is one pulling? or are they in in unison? Is this just a way to get the bl up without saturating the gap by having too strong a motor?

But your just hugging DCs nuts just like we come across and hug AA's.. So explain from an engineering point of view how item A is better than B. DONT base it off what you have heard in Steves truck. Has Steve ran the LVL5s for you to know how they compare in your 'opinion' sonic abilitys? no. So your just basing off 1 install and 1 application.

We've done enough BTL to SMD comparisons to know the SMD in optimal enclosures play LOUD, DEEPER and sound like nothing else we've had before. Your not convinced, then who am i to care. But those who say 'DC' or whatever other brand for that matter because thats what they run is just fuckin retarded if you ask me. Run them all THEN base your judgement on it.

FWIW the LVL5 Vs an SMD? Seriously, thats just too funny.
