We actually did 2 differnt placements of the mic at the last show to see differences in score.. but the three together and averaging the scores is gonna work perfectly.

this as of 09-25-10 has been set in the gravestone of rules for my SPLeague... I believe it will actually Put ALL,,, and i mean ALL the controversy to rest. the "Legal" term will be redefined and perfected for All competitive organizations as whos scores matter and all the mumbo jumbo that go along with it. 3 placements of the mic for SPL runs.

1.) Sealed on the glass (6"up 12"over)

2.) in the kick (done outlaw style

3.) at the headrest

with all scores averaged...

Well I'll start the first score lol. I can furnish proof of these as well.

Sealed on glass: 150.1

Kick (outlaw): 156.0

Headrest (outlaw): 153.7

Giving me a score of 153.3

I guess you'll have to address rounding or truncating scores, positioning of kick/head rest metering and whether or not the headrest measurement will be outlaw style.

The only reason I thought of the averaging was because of the way the TL measures. Peak frequency and +/-1hZ averaged.

SEE... if you look at these scores.... HOW COULD ANYONE say that your sytem does not truly do a 156db??? i mean the meter read it but the posting of all three like that is Phenominal and i love it. IMO your true PEAK SPL is 156db and your TRUE SPL is 153.3db

I like the idea of the three scores averaged. But, damn it seems to take forever for someone to get through the lanes as it is. Then move the meter and make a run 3 times? Seems like it would just take too long.

Or is there a way to hook up 3 mics at the same time and get the scores all at once?

thats a good point, and run after run will also heat up coils and lower scores.

If it was just 2 places you could just run a dual mic setup, but no 3 mic termlabs yet

I think measuring at the headrest and in the seat gives the best justification of what your spl should be, since that is where you sit.. you don't stick your head in the kick or on the dash do you?

I see where the OP is coming from with this one but with that being said I agree with you Eric. The Meca headrest measuring is a true justification to what you deliver to your delicate brain on a daily basis and how much carnage is being unleashed upon your ears

well we have several termlabs and this rule can be applied to world record runs and people chasing points. but if you think about it... you do 2 different mic placements on the first run, with the option to do the third reading at that moment or get back in line and do the second run... we usually allow 2 runs anyhow? NOW if your doing a (Head to Head) Spl with brackets then yeah that will not work. but single vehicle runs will. you just have to make sure you have ORDER when your running an event. the setting it up and getting organized is the hardest part... but once you get the cars lined up and on their way it goes quick....(Plus i know i dont go to a show just so i can get it over with in 5 minutes) i go to hang out and make an eventfull day out of it.. bring the woofer toss to your show or a BBQ and enjoy yourself.

now our BASSCONTROL event we do is 2 out of 3 runs and the finals is 3 out of 5. now that heats up your coils and shows your systems true potential and reliability, as well as operator control.

sealed up with sensor on the windshield db drag style is known worldwide as the standard. just like the term lab IS the standard measuring instrument.

get a db drag style score, and everyone knows where you stand. just has been that way. all those other orgs are new school still.

if its anything but db drag, they only cover so much region. now i am not saying i dis-reguard them all together, im just saying, they're NOT the standard. do i even agree that the windshield should of been the position recognized to be the standard? NO...., it just came to be that way.

when i got into car audio, there was only iasca. now we have so many different branches of competition styles to choose from.

in closing, you can, (imo), base a number from any one of those orgs, AS LONG AS they're within those orgs. sealed up db drag style, is still the only world recognized standard measurement at this time.

if you want to state what your system does, just make sure you announce what org it pertains to so it doesn't cause confusion.

i would like to try that "basscontrol" i like bassracing, and that seems like it would be fun. too bad i might not ever get to try it out
