Benji0687
Any pics of the passive radiators? Im really interested to see what those look like. The only ones I've seen in person...well they werent 18s or anything as nice as this. Keep up the good work! vega87
The transition from the subs to the towers is flawless. Looks hella clean. Are there any calculations that go into using PR's? For Example, you wanted to use one 18" SMD in a recommended enclosure. Do the PR's have a calculated effect on the sound? As in more PR's or different size PR's affect the sound? Are they in anyway a substitute for tuning? Or is it just, power one speaker in a sealed enclosure and add as many PR's as possible? Sorry to be ignorant but does anyone know what does PR's mean ???? bkolfo4
Passive radiator looks similar to a subwoofer without a motor. The cone is weighted to adjust the "tuning" frequency. Works like a port, but you can get really low tunings without long ports to worry about. Looks great Steve - If you ever build another set, get those drivers butted up against each other. At least the tweeters. You will get a much better frequency response. . . Brian edit - here is some interesting reading from a man that is known in the home audio world as an expert in line arrays. If you have time, read the section on driver separation, page 11. I have tested this when I built the line arrays I post pics of here in the home audio section. You can hear a big difference in tweeter response as you move the drivers closer/farther apart. http://www.systemsolutions.co.za/Tech%20Zone/Line%20Array%20White%20Paper.pdf Brian Edited November 3, 2010 by bkolfo4 Quote Current system: 1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s Previous systems: 2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz. 1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz. R_Mac_1
I wonder how many people on here actually know and understand PR's I know I have no clue how to tune them ( I know you add weight but not how much) I think I remember Dave @ PSI saying that the easiest way is just by testing. You just use test tones one by one. Whichever tone the sub moves the least and the PR moves the most is your tuning. Add more weight to lower tuning and remove to raise it (I think). I'd like to try them but it's a fair amount of added cost. meade916
More updates: I have been doing a lot of sanding, drilling and resin pouring lately so it may not seem like a lot of progress but its a lot of work! I have another video i uploaded this morning that should be processed any time now and i will post that link as soon as its ready. We got Bodyfiller (because im not as perfect as i wish i was), Neo Magnets (top tower attachment) some resin and some T-nuts. The Neo's work pretty damn good but just to be safe i am adding a bunch more. Then a little more sanding, some wiring, some casters, and it should be ready for some paint.
