big dee
Could fry it faster, but if your giving it rated or less than rated it only means it will heat up faster. Heat doesn't always mean fry and in some cases a warm sub could play better than a cool one. ive noticed that with my aq hdc. sounds better after its been played for a min or two. but its still kinda stiff
Skullz
Yes they make aluminum cone subs and its to take the heat away from the coil for better cooling but at the cost of moving mass. HHR Ed
I dont know if its a stupid question or not, but my sub has an aluminum cone and I had it runnin on BME click for a good couple minutes. got out and felt the cone, it was ice cold. so I figured Id ask...also, whats the advantage of an aluminum cone? edit: forgot to mention it wasnt just BME click I had been romping on it for 10 minutes before that... Cone temperature isnt very important. technically all woofer cones would get warmer in some fashion due to air friction and heat build up from the coil But Aluminum would dissipate that very fast, and its slick to reduce friction. The main advantage of an aluminum cone is it's weight. They are very efficient, but they do have their limitations in how much power you can throw at it. BTW, what sub is it? craracer05
I the rockford t series woofers with the alum cones can get really hot depending on how hard you push them. HHR Ed
was waiting for him to chime in. You get your phone back up and running? yup, I got it. And if the OP meant to say coil. Then Aluminum is less dense than copper, so it does take longer to heat up and is lighter weight so efficiency is good. But because of this, SQ sometimes can suffer and the frequency response of the woofer may not be as low. This can be compensated for though. I was talking coils, not cones. Which is a known fact that aluminum coils would not be as low as copper coils. I also said that this can be compensated for.
