how do you bag with torsion bars?

Recommended Posts

if the axles are unhooked and diff drained then it has no more cooling when the diff is still getting driven by the tcase. it's sort of like pulling a car long distances the transmission is still turning but no cooling so burns stuff up

Its funny..... I called air baggit and air ride tech and they both told me to leave the torsion bars in. I asked them why would I leave the torsion bars in if the air bag would support the weight of the vehical. Both companies told me that the airbag would have a hard time supporting the full weight all on its own without the torsion bars. Didnt make any sence to me. Glad to see other people have the same theory as me. Its a shame when we know more than the company selling the product.

Meade or anyone with a tahoe, how is your ride quality on the front of your truck after doing the air struts? They all say the ride is horrible and I noticed on all your videos you mention the look but never the ride.

I'd listen to ART, not the people here...

Dont listen to the people here? c'mon man i think i have enough experience in this subject.

Air Ride Tech did NOT tell him to keep his torsion bars in.....no way. Thats the FIRST THING you remove. Maybe he misunderstood them. AIRBAGGIT.com on the other hand, i have heard nothing but BAD things about them so i wouldnt take any of their advice. When you bag a Tahoe, the BAGS (and your internal or relocated shocks) are now your suspension........torsion bars are to be taken OUT.

to answer his question, it rides better then my lexus does......like riding on a cloud. It doesnt HANDLE better, its a 7100lb beast on 26's and 25 series tires......but it rides smooth as silk riding down the highway.

Well, considering I'm sure ART has done HUNDREDS of different vehicles, yeah I stand by my statement... You do 2 vehicles and you're a pro? lol... Sorry... I don't know what ART told him, as I wasn't part of the call... I can only go by the information given. I know that you need to leave the keys in, and get a lowered key (3"drop key), so you can still mount the bags on the uppers... If you have a shock setup then you take them off... My boy with his 03 Yukon on 24's bagged his shit, and when we took his keys off, the bag barely moved anything cuz of the weight of the truck. He was running 1/2" lines on a 200psi setup too... He got 3" drop keys installed them and went 1" higher than stock, and 8" lower (yes he had 9" of travel)... Not sure how much your setup moves, but he was running Firestone 2600# bags up front as well...

Between him and I we've done probably 45 vehicles on air... Just sayin... I'd like to know how you have your bags, and where though too and if you have shocks or not?

2? please, i have done at least 10 in my day....you have done 45? I find that hard to believe. Whatever though.

your boy with his yukon couldnt lift a truck up on 1/2" lines on 200psi? I dont know what you are doing wrong but you could probably lift a brinks truck on 200lbs.

i still say TAKE THE TORSIONS OUT. Hey wait, let me go to the ridetech.com site and see for myself.

hmmmmmm FIRST WORDS AT THE TOP.

1. Raise and support vehicle at a safe, comfortable working height. Let the front suspension hang

freely

2. Remove the torsion bar and shock absorber. Refer to a factory service manual for proper

disassembly procedure. Hang on to the factory shock bolts; they will be reused in mounting

the lower Shockwave plate

here is the link, read it yourself.

http://www.ridetech.com/pdfinstructions/docs/SKW1014.pdf

the only difference between this (Shockwave) and normal bags......is that you have to relocate the shock. Same thing, torsion comes out.

then your buddy had issues ryan.

the bag goes where the coil would have been, simple really..

and the front should use a 7" bag, it lifts the front no problem.

7" slam on 180psi seemed to lift the front of my hummer just fine.

torsions come out period.

come talk air with me when you can bag a 4wd hummer and keep it from spittin axels out.

torsion trucks alone ive done more than you.

did air for 8 years or so.. prob 200 trucks so far.. I think id call my self a pro at doing a simple ass tahoe.
