You all could just buy a volt meter made to do that rather then trying to use a 1/8 inch number that you can barely see in heavy sunlight to watch your voltage. Yeah the radio has one and it's always nice to have a backup to look at but it's not going to replace a real volt meter.

No the voltage is read from the power wire for the head unit itself. I guess you could run a wire to your batts for the primary power wire of the head unit. But mine only reads .1 above what my stinger reads from my batt bank. So its pretty damn close if you got decent electrical.

t2 and sundown z v.3 are not even comparable the z v.3 is an all around good sub the t2 is not. Rockford make decent amps and that is it. people think the spaceship looking basket is cool but it does not help the woofer in any way. I would compare a sa to a t2 over a z to a t2. and your talking about recones. if you are going to need to recone the z you must be clipping the hell out of it with 1700 watts therefor the t2 will be dead years before the z and i have heard the t2 having alot of tinsil lead problems. so your choice

the voltage display is full of win. more headunits need to do that
