Dont blame the girls, its most likely their upbringing thats at fault. Their parents, grandparents and so on passed along each generation. The word is most likely used freely in the household and the girls though we should use it freely at school too not knowing that their parents and parents parents are wrong for so long...

Its a strong possibility that the parents are ignorant, but those student are old enough to know what the word means. If it was a joke, it was a dumb one. If it was to get on TV, it worked LOL.
