Worthwhile read but some may not like the site or people. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/how-articles-provided-our-members/31-real-deal-8-ohm-drivers.html

Should I?

If everything is in solid working order i would buy it up in a NY second. -
Matching/Mismatching Amplifiers?
Skullz replied to SonicHD's topic in Sonic Electronix - Great Selection Great Prices
Seems as though today most companies will either have a great speaker and poor amps or poor speakers and great amps, i tend to go with old school amps as they are built with quality parts and designs that have now stood the test of time and focus now on quality speakers as it has cost quite a bit of money trying other brands that fail for one reason or another. It's really tough navigating the sea of garbage forced upon us from china but that is sadly how it has become for us all in this day and age, either you are willing to shell out the money on some good quality gear or you have to buy and try a number of companies products to find something that suits your taste and budget. -
about to order 2 obsidian audio 12s...any objections?
Skullz replied to ZachG's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
Good choice and hope it bumps some mad shit. -
Audacity is terrible for trying to find clipping cause 99% of what you see is over gain and beyond max caused from new people thinking that if they push it to the max they make louder music but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Use windows media player to see the real clipping and the clipping you need to be concerned with is the sub frequency as there are so few that it literally stops the speaker from making it's full travel and heats the coil much faster and higher in temp than would normally happen with unclipped songs.

So many variables come into play that there is no simple number to throw out.

PPI art series from up to 96 will have great quality. PPI AM series prior to the art series is another great choice. U.S. Amps old vlx line

Never mount rags under amp as that traps and holds heat, get some deadener and put a little on the inside of the cover and that should stop it from rattling.

Random concert question
Skullz replied to RCP Audio's topic in Off Topic - Random, Misc posts - the forum "Junk Drawer"
I would think that it means it will start at 8 and doors probably open at 7:30 ish. -
What this design does is; doubles the speaker force triples power handling multiplies sound power output by 4 more than triples heat dissipation makes amplifiers very happy by reducing coil inductance, ohm load and creating a much higher electromagnetic coupled system(increases the magnetomotive force) makes different OHM load combinations possible drastically reduces magnetic field leakage and outrageously increases magnetic efficiency increases excursion X-max (speaker pumping) potential by improving voice coil alignment because it uses 2 spiders spaced widely apart and now impossible for voice coil to "bottom out" reduces harmonic distortion to almost zero LOL

For $150 you aren't getting no damn 1400w amp period. If it puts out anything near what it claims to then it will most likely fail before too long being a class a/b design with a weak ass heat sink to absorb the heat generated.
-
Get a 4500/5k amp for those and you'll be happy.
-
I prefer to run components over pro audio cause i don't need to make speaker pods for them sound good, i only need to deaden and damp the doors and get a nice set to run and the inside of my car looks factory still with no modification to the door panels.
-
12 is fine as the run from the amp is short.
-
The higher lines of component set will handle far more power than they are rated for, it is not uncommon to hear of people having two to three times the power rating on them but they do so with very powerful and clean amps so as not to play any distortion that could harm the speaker. I myself am partial to hertz and love the power they take along with how well they sound at low and high volumes. EDIT: If all you want are mids then hertz has a la carte so you can buy only the mids if that is all that is needed.

unscrew everything and pull it apart and clean all the surfaces and use some good wood glue and reassemble it. Should be better than it was before but make absolutely certain you got off all of the caulk, if you have to put the side that faced inside and switch them to the outside so you have a good clean surface for the glue to penetrate and then carpet it after you finish it.

The Penn State Scandal

What pisses me off about institutions are the fear they can instill in people when they have things to hide and cover up, it is why they have made whistle blower laws so that those that do come forward can do so with no blow back from a company or institution. I'm almost positive joe was told in no uncertain terms to keep his mouth shut or serve serious repercussions from faculty leaders as a way to keep all this under wraps and hidden from everyone outside of the school cause anyone that has ever been in a situation like that has to make terrible and sometimes life altering decisions. -
Too costly to repair if you break it.

Amp overheating
Skullz replied to Mastradamas's topic in General Audio - Can't find a category for your question? Ask here.
If your now having other electrical issues i would look into your voltage and see if it is able to maintain voltage or if it is dropping cause if you get serious enough drop than your amp will run much hotter than if the voltage were constant. -
Amp overheating
Skullz replied to Mastradamas's topic in General Audio - Can't find a category for your question? Ask here.
They were probably wired to 8 ohms and didn't stress the amp as much as the lower 2 ohm load is now, it is only a guess though. -

The real tragedy is that non of the counsel members had action taken against them but every student that played football lost every kind of record they made during that time. I want to see every fucking counsel member pay millions and millions for the cowardly actions they took to cover it up and blame a damn coach for everything, i don't care if they are broke and destitute for all the harm they have caused. While i agree coach Jo should have done more to have kept a predator off campus it was not only his fault but also the fault of the board to not only have kept it secret but allowed him access to the campus after the fact.
