  1. i always thought that putting in the 45s would help direct the air flow and keep the subs from loading eachother. i havent tested it so i wouldnt know for sure. im not challenging what you said. it sounds like youre more experienced with this design
  2. youre going to calculate the port length and width in the calculator and where you "split" it you want to use half the width into each chamber. be sure to put 45s against the back wall where the port splits to keep port width correct. you can see the picture how the port is half the size going into the chambers. at this point i havent added the 45 though. should look like a pyramid | /\ | like this like this:
  3. i had this happen to a co-worker. when he hit the brakes hard his battery would shift and cause the positive terminal to short out shutting off the entire car for a second til he got moving again. this can be a really REALLY bad deal. hopefully you figure out the problem soon
  4. My cousin has an 86 Cherokee with 430k+ on it. Still has stock 4.0 inline 6 and tranny. He hardly ever has to work on. Just little stuff will fail. Obviously its no cherry but that's a hell of a life span on that motor! I think you'll love it man. Good luck. Hopefully you can pick it up
  5. well i guess a couple things first, whats the budget, what kinda car do you like (import, muscle, euro). some cars to consider would be mustang, bmw 3-series, 240sx
  6. Ya post what you said. Before I can sympathize I need both sides to this story. For all I know you edited the comment from steve to make him look like a douche. Just sayin.
  7. bahahaha i love this one. theres some great ones here. gonna be tough rusty
  8. ive done a lot of searching in that same price range without much luck. i think some companies have an add-on for their multimeters that have an oscope function but im not 100% sure. someone posted this scope but i never followed up if they got it or not.
  9. velleman oscopes are only about $200 and ive seen some guys on here using them. as oscope produces the sine wave of an audio signal onto a digital screen so you can see a smooth or clipped signal. steve has some great vids about this in the amplifier section.
  10. lol sorry, its from watching discovery channel. "green" like "green horn" the new guy. its all good lol
  11. this kid is pretty green but when i say volume 30/30, 30 is MY max, not the HU max. might be going on here too but if not then its very good advice. wtf?? whats that mean? sorry just different areas have different sayings on my hu it goes to 35. i never go above 30 just as a safety. but for all i know it clipping there cuz i dont have an o-scope or access to one
  12. you shouldnt be running your headunit at 40/40 on volume. its more then likely clipping your speakers especially with the treble at 5/7. just a little fyi. but to the topic, like skittles said, some songs are at different amplitudes. if i really favor one song, like waka flocka no hands i run it thru windows media player on scope mode to see if its clipped, that songs clipped as f*ck btw! but the songs youre playing are more like 40hz iirc
  13. Frequency is the highest frequency your subs will play. And setting the subsonic 5 hz below keeps the subs from playing too low for the box and damaging themselves
