  1. You could also try obsidian audio. They have some nice subs at low prices. 12", 15", 18"
  2. http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp This should help you. As for your volt meter, can't you just re-calibrate it?
  3. Ya but not everyone wants to go out and measure... I don't mind measuring I just think it's a good idea to have since some of their competitors have it. It's a way to attract more less-knowledgeable customers.
  4. The thing that will make the most difference in determining SQ vs SPL is the box. Whatever sub you pick will be good (in the mid range->not something that's designed for SPL lol). All about the box my friend.
  5. I would run: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_37709_Hifonics-HFX12D4.html or if you have a few bucks more... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_20195_Hifonics-BRZ12D4.html They are affoardable and people have had great results. Plus they take more power than the rockfords.
  6. Your wire was probably touching the negative pole and making it spark up/heat up. I would replace the wire with OFC wire and see what happens. I run a 2600 watt amp on 12ga wire and it's fine.
  7. Check your wiring. Maybe you reversed polarity somehow
  8. Thanks a lot joe!!! This will bring my Mayhem back to life!
  9. Thank you a LOT for this. You don't think I could get away with my stock red top and a D3100, do you? I was thinking about getting a Stetsom 7k if I could find prices or a place to buy them. I'll probably pay someone to draw up enclosure plans for me once I get the car and the dimensions. I don't want to wall completely because I enjoy seeing out of my rear view mirror. You couldn't go off stock man, nothing at all stock. Basicly hes saying those brands base there RMS at a very safe level.. they can be played well above that if your smart about it. Bigger amp will help you a ton, that way your amp's not working so hard to push whatever it has to push.. DC FTMFW I think grab up 2 level 5's and you'll be on your way.. Sundown, AQ, more of the brands you'll find on here will do over rms rating.. If you want you can PM me if you have some questions on electrical, been learning alot on it actually I'd be willing to help always on the forums. Eh, I've read a lot and I've fully decided that I want DD 9518s. I know that for fact. I've heard of people pushing them at 3k each and more without a problem. I know they can't take too low of bass, but that's fine with me. Eh. I guess I can look at a smaller XS battery and a D3100. Steve has 10? for 30k? I'd imagine I could do fine with one. My pleasure man. Glad to give back to the community. If you want to run that much power, you'll need at least 2 to be safe. The more batteries you add, the more reserve you'll have. If you run just 1 supplimental for 7k, you won't make it too far before you have to turn down the volume due to voltage drop. BUT, you can always upgrade later if you find you need more. You'll definately need a high output alt though. You will not make it without one. Also you should use the new XP series XSpower bats as your supplimentals. Apparently they're really good.
  10. I'll do yours joe because then I can try different setups with the same box (fire up, back, up). I can go higher but not deeper sadly, or else it wont be able to fit in the truck through the door (Truck is new so I don't want to risk messing it up by building inside the truck. And ya I listen mostly to rap so 33hz would probably be best for me! realistic max dimensions would be: 34H x 35W x 20.5D Thanks a lot joe!
  11. No problem, I can do it myself I was just curious to see what you had in mind exactly.
  12. Can you show me what you would do for my truck? Tuned about 33-34hz. Max dimensions are on the first page Try not to max it though, give it a bit of wiggle room. so like take an inch off the max hight and max width. Depth is ok at max
  13. Nissan has been picking up their sleaves lately. I had 2 hondas. One was the odyssey van (however you spell it) and the other was a civic. The van never had problems. The civic on the other hand... what a peice of junk. So really I would say it comes down to value for your dollar. Compare the prices and features and whichever one has the most features for the best price takes it. I voted nissan though.
  14. Agreed. I'll just use more bracing to reinforce it all. Joe, do you think it would be better to tune lower? I listen to a variety of music but 70% of the time it's rap with low bass. Also, would it make a difference if I took an inch off the width and added an inch to the hight? Just so that it's not at my max dimensions and gives a bit of breathing room to move it a bit Just wondering
  15. If using 1 amp and 4 sub, you need the dual 2 coils. If using 2 amps and 4 subs, you need the dual 4 ohm coils. You need to find a 1ohm stable amp. One that does about 3500W, like the audioque 3500. If the amp is cheaper then 350 dollar it's not going to do 3000W except if going second hand. I doubt you want to do electrical upgrades(putting in a HO alt and a big battery in the back) so go for 2 12's in a PROPER ported box and use a 1500W amp. ^ this
