  1. It won't be -- we've done that before. Sales weren't there. It was too large & too expensive to generate adequate sales.
  2. It would be really hard to calculate all of that -- we'd need to know exactly where the sub was mounted on the baffle face to crunch those numbers. Possibly best to ask the company that makes it as they could whip out a tape measure easily vs. a bunch of geometry. We are only at 4.5" depth so a wider magnet would fit -- but I'd say ask them to be sure.
  3. It will even out over time; initially they would be significantly different in compliance.
  4. To follow up a bit... out of the 1,000 sets sold I have actually heard from maybe 2-3 people that weren't happy. And one of them is in this thread *laughs* That being said -- I don't expect every person on the planet to always like what I like =)

  6. With the Z v.4 the higher powered coil option is the NS v.2 coil -- which is about 10% longer.
  7. Obviously not everyone agrees on what they like -- that being said we sold 1,000 sets of the SA-6.5 CS and 95% or more of people absolutely love them. They do have a smooth sound to them so if you like a sharp sound (think MB Quart, Focal, etc) you may not like them. That being said -- the SA-6.5CS v.2 is in production and due in June. Significantly beefier / lower distortion mid (bigger motor, bigger & longer coil, added shorting ring, etc) & improved tweeter. Crossover is a full 24dB slope unit; very nice. We are also making an SD-6.5CS set which is essentially the original SA-6.5CS set w/ a stamped frame on the mid & improved crossover. Cost is the same as the original SA-6.5CS set & it is also due in June. As far as materials used -- we use the same cone material as some much more expensive products on both the SD & SA components (and SA coaxials that are also coming in June). Motors are FEA optimized & tweeters tweaked to my liking.
  8. If you have had one for a while ; it will be alot softer than a brand new driver. Will take some time to equalize in stiffness. Age difference seems fairly significant as one has the XL lead and one does not -- also one was built by us & one is factory made. Not sure what you mean by what noise ? I hear some air movement which is normal.
  9. We should have them in our warehouse next week to begin QC checking & shipping.
  10. Our web guy hasn't gotten that up yet -- the SA-18 is available.
  11. I got pricing worked out -- the SD-3 12" will be $225 -- the 10" is $199 -- these are MAP from any authorized dealer.
  12. The 12" prototypes are completed @ the factory and on their way to me... since I nailed things such as surround thickness & compliance down on the 10s these were pretty simple. We did have to use a motor 30mm wider to drive the additional mass; so keep that in mind when I formulate pricing : * The machined arms are just on the prototype. I am not going to spend the extra to do that on production since there is no performance gain. * Factory spec on the D4 * Factory spec on the D2
  13. The only units to be sold are the ones in the CACO Yard Sale. They did not meet my standards... but I have not heard much or any complaints from those who bought them from the yard sale.
  14. It definitely will NOT be less efficient -- simply more maximum capacity is being added. In all reality the X v.2 will be a bit more efficient... motor diameter is jumping from 190 to 220mm & magnet height from 66mm to 75mm (so the magnet slugs themselves will equal the Z v4). It's pretty significant in terms of motor beef.
  15. A full v.2 is not imminent -- but is in the works. The current SA series is on "Rev.2" right now which consisted of the chromed motor & XL leads. There will be a "Rev.3" this year with a bump in RMS rating due to some tweaks to the motor; pricing will not change for that from the existing 2015 updates. I use the "v" designation for a model different enough that it cannot realistically be used together with older units, and the "Rev" designation if it is still similar enough to be used together with older units.
  16. Haha. I've been developing the 2015 sheet for many months now. For the most part; products that have changed in price have either already received updates / improvements -- or will be receiving them very soon. For example; the E v.2 series hasn't changed so the price is also exactly the same for 2015, the X-6.5 & X-8 are also the same, as are all amplifiers. Pretty much across the board on everything else we've done a few things already; standard XL lead being a big one on the SD-2 & SA series. These also phased into the bigger subs earlier on last year. I am not aware of a single tinsel lead failure of the XL leads yet -- so it's a major upgrade. Z v.4 went to standard US coils a while back & is getting an updated motor / higher RMS rating early this year. That is reflected in the 2015 price sheet. X series will be going to a standard US coil for the v.2 & updated motor / higher RMS rating this year. The X v.1 pricing is actually staying the same until they sell out -- then the v.2 kicks in (SSA had put up the v.2 pricing by mistake). On that note... once we make the full shift any future drop-ins will also use the US coils. And all new platform subs with Mega-Roll surrounds will be phasing into the Mega-Roll v.2 surround as soon as they come in stock. So -- a ton of upgrades & changes as well.
  17. There is a new 2015 price sheet released that all online dealers will be phasing in. I checked SSA -- the X pricing is incorrect; that is the price for the v.2 version. I'll let them know to fix that one.
  18. The full answer is -- it varies. We do assemble quite a few of our larger subs in house; all Z v.3 series, all Nightshade series (v1, v2, and v3), all TEAM series, and all drop-in kits. * - For the X series we do both; with the majority being done at the factory -- we fill in the blanks in inventory & build custom units in house. * - For the Z v.4 series we also do both; with the majority being done in-house at this time -- we fill in stock on some higher selling confiurations with factory units (I put any new factory production on hold for a while this year so they have all been done in-house for several months now... but I will bring back factory stock in for the best selling configs for 2015 to help reduce lead times). As far as the test rate -- we test 100% of every subwoofer & amplifier that comes in from our factory... from the E series subs to the NS-1 amplifiers. Someone tests them all -- this is where our b-stock & yard sale stuff comes from -- things that don't pass the test. * - I put a hold on ALL factory production for a good chunk of time AND pushed all "old stock" into the Yard Sale while we worked out the metal clamps. So all newer factory units have the surrounds clamped on with metal brackets. I've also re-tooled the Mega-Roll surrounds for 2015 based on the last ~2 years of experience with them (due in stock in February) with a new version that is easier / more consistant to assemble, more linear, more rugged, and with a bit less mass to top it off. Suffice to say I'm never sitting still if there is a way to improve our products even if it means re-tooling a whole set of relatively new parts that were, overall, a tremendous success... "Mega Roll" based products out-sold all of our other previous "big" subs combined by a huge margin as I had mentioned above. But, to me, even a few small % of problems is too much. I put the same philosophy into everything... our SD-2 8/10/12 and SA-8/10/12/15/18 series got our XL leads in 2014 -- so they have a beefier stock lead than the original Nightshade v.1 & v.2 woofers on drivers ranging from 300-600 watts in RMS rating.
  19. Between the X & Z v.4 lines there are ~10x more drivers on the market than all of our Nightshade v.1, v.2 and v.3 woofers and all previous Z series (v.1, v.2, and v.3) combined -- so with such a massive launch of an all new platform the overall percentage of any issues is, in fact, quite small... even counting the early first run issues.
