  1. I've noticed on one amp that I had to turn the unit off and back on while hooked up to the amp. Seamed to reset the issue and get a good read from then on out.
  2. LD-2? Wtf? I'm in, don't even know what it is and I'm in. Oh and get ur ass working on the meter please, before I go steal Rays
  3. I found it hard to believe that something so affordable could be so accurate. I've been around scopes my whole life. I can remember some really old and expensive scopes sitting on my dads workbench growing up and always believed you got what you paid for in test equipment. Will be fun to head over to the old mans place and show him the latest and greatest tools in my collection
  4. Gain matching with the CC-1 was more accurate then my DDM when I matched up 12 amps in Garys system.
  5. I'm all about more drinking and cigars over working anyday
  6. I guess the skeptical part comes from seeing how much ANY good scope costs is and how easy and affordable the DD-1 and CC-1 are. I have invested a ton of money in my scope, and it has been hands down the best tool I have purchased to do what I do. But now I have a tool that is way cheaper and easier to use just makes it a no brainner. I think ANYONE who is in the hobby like we are should have the tools necessary to do the job right.
  7. HAHAHAHA. yeah i'm hard headed some times and need to see shit for myself. And the RCA gang box was a 3 beer and fat cigar night
  8. Last week I was asked to help out on Gary Killians Excursion to add a few amps. For those of you who don't know, go look him up on youtube. Gary had 8 Crossfire 2400w amps and 12 subs. He has decided to add 4 more amps and upgrade the subs so each sub has its own power. Anyone who has seen his truck already knows that it is a tight fit. Adding 4 more amps was no fun. Plus each amp has dual power and grounds. So it's a lot like wiring 24 freaking amps. Luckily I was able to leave 6 and not touch them. The 8 were strapped so we had to add quite a bit of speaker wire as well. So after 2 very long days of cutting wire sizes, soldering, shrink wrapping and making fit nice and neat like the rest of the truck, I was able to finally power up and set all the amps. Now I'll be completely honest with you, i wasn't sold on either of these units as I had already invested in a very nice scope. In the tune of about $900 bucks. (TPI 460) It has hands down helped me diagnosis more issues then I care to remember. Without a doubt been a great investment.. Ray was nice enough to pressure me into picking up the pair before heading up. e said it will save me a boatload of time. I picked up both units from Steve on Thursday with the intention of learning how they worked before jumping in on Gary's truck. Unfortunately time ran short as I had to make some distribution blocks and an RCA gang box. So Sunday late day Sunday I pulled these units out of the box and dropped in some 9v batteries and went to work. I started out with the DD-1 on the deck and checked it's max volume out to the amps. I then set up on the easiest amp to get to and followed the step in the manual. At the same time I threw on my scope so I could see the differences in the 2. went through the steps and started turning up the gain till it read distortion. Right as the light came on is where i could start to see a dip in my sine-wave on the scope. It was dead on to where I would have rolled back the gain on my scope. Now the great part to all this is, there is no messing around with the screen settings on the scope to get an accurate reading. Anyone who has messed with a scope on a small screen will tell you that it takes a bit to get it to read where you can see it. It took me longer to set the scope screen then it would have to set distortion on all 12 amps. Next we got on to the CC-1 I wasn't sure if I wanted to set the LPF 1st or gain match all the amps. After looking at the rest of Garys setup, we decided to leave the LPF open and allow his EQ to handle that. So we got right into gain matching all the amps. So again we got to reading the manual, set our cd track, read our master amp and went through the stack. It took longer to weed through the bunches of wires to get to the dials then it did to set the amps. Again, double checked everything with the scope and all the amps were dead on. I would have to say that even with spending time to read the books, and double checking with my scope, it took us all of 10 min to set all 12 amps start to finish. I would be willing to bet that we could of done it in under 5 min with knowing how to do it and skipping the scope double check. So for anyone thinking of spending the money to get the pair, I say without a doubt it is a good investment. If you compare it to the money I spent on a scope then it's a great investment. My hats off the Tony and Steve for working to bring an affordable product to the market Didn't get many pics as we were on turbo speed all weekend to get the truck together. but here is a few for ya.
  9. 45's don't always help in a box. some people do see a gain some don't. I have added them to boxes and seen a gain and then pulled them back out and just added the displacement of the 45's in a scrap piece of wood and seen the same gain
  10. I think ya should strap them, then Jacob would be more then happy to sell you 2 new amps Think of it this way, would you put 3 38's and 1 doughnut tire on your truck and go mudding?
  11. Time is ticking Autorama is just around the corner. Get back to work
  12. And to take that statment further Peel and seal and or fort-o-flash is often times stapled in place to hold it in while you are putting another material OVER it to hold it in place.

    Last problem

Given how well that shop did on the install, I am going to say it is a shitty ground. Check where the amp is grounded, then move up to the front of the car and check where the alt is grounded and look into doing the big 3
  14. Everyone I know who got them saw no gain in power or MPG. So I passed on putting them on mine.
  15. Thanks guys! Sucks getting old, but its great to have friends like you guys on here.
  16. 2 Aspirin, big bottle of water and a banana. Works well for me
  17. couple more batts and a new front stage. for now Your going to be the KING of CRAM it in. As always excellent choices in equipment and builder. I have a 5lb and 10lb sledge that says everything will fit. His car might have some places that bulge out to make everything fit
  18. he always does. as long as its not his. lol That's no bullshit. Although, we may see a little action with black cloud here before too long
  19. Cut hole - drop in hole - screw in Dun
  20. Marlboro back in the day. Hell I think it even before the were called reds Now I just stick to cigars. Vegas 5's, Gurkah's, Nubs, Acid, Diesel, and viejo just to name a few. Nice start to the day.
  21. Any tool will command respect the instant you don't give it. 1/4" spiral up or down bit you will use a whole lot. a 1/2 round over bit you can use often. A flush trim bit will come in handy quite often. and a step bit for flush mount rings are real handy once you get the hang of the router. You don't need to own a jasper jig. A simple wood block set and you can make your own for speaker cutouts. Once you get going on circles, then a jasper allows you to get creative. Invest in some bench cookies to help you keep your work off the table as you cut.
