  1. Been there done that. Walmart is an excellent location, get a gym membership to pass time and shower. It's funny because I originally went to school for music education, with a minor in performance (trumpet) and voice
  2. Once you leave you never go back, period. Everyone thinks they can quit for a while, then it's too hard to clear their schedule for it and go back. Exactly, I left school with every intention to go back. Worst decision I ever made.
  3. Welcome to adulthood!! Do not drop out of school, that would be a horrible decision. You are gonna have to get a second job or find a place to live that will take labor as rent payment. If you are going to a University see about living on campus.
  4. still not really worth it. What kind of power are you running. Walling at the c pillar is only going to gain you more airspace for the subs, might increase spl but not enough for all the added work. I just did a build in a 98 Grand cherokee and I know you only have 11.75 cubes if you are wanting to stay below the window line. You can build a box subs up port back and go a little above the window line and have a more cost effective setup.
  5. My entire work history has been retail management or corrections/ security. I know that retail is a failing industry, besides groceries I can't remember the last thing I didn't buy online. And corrections has gotten ridiculous around my area. A women's prison had a career fair and is was broadcast on the news that there were over 1000 applicants. It is exactly what Nate said. The jobs are out there but the ones that I want everyone else wants too, and there is usually always someone more qualified.
  6. ..... snagajob.com careerbuilder monster indeed craigslist allretailjobs I'm on all of them at least once a week. Have apps saved on my phone for CL and indeed. Again I can find jobs that pay $20,000 or less. I'm trying to find a long term career that can get me back to the $50,000 range.
  7. I will have to have a full time job to have a manageable lifestyle I have to make $30,000 a year. And I have 2 kids, so school is out of the question for now. I know I'll find something it's just these little things get to me. The only reason I'm really frustrated is I just drove to Grove city , Ohio (4 hours one way) for an interview and was told at the interview that I was not qualified to be a General Manager for Dollar General. I was a District Manager for Hollywood Video for 3 years (3 years as Store Manager) and a District Manager for Spencer Gifts for 2 years, but that doesn't qualify me to work in a small box store. Gamestop (my number 1 choice) will not hire me because I am over qualified and a security risk.
  8. I don't like to share personal problems but I really want to vent. I'm tired of trying to find a career. I was with a company for 5 years and figured that was going to be my career. The company closed in 2010 and I've been searching since. Granted I've had no problem finding JOBS, but It's frustrating feeling like you are worth so much more. I went from $50,000 a year with a company vehicle down to near minimum wage. While I withdrew from college to pursue a career everyone else finished. Every job I apply for requires a degree. I'm sure there are others here with similar problems. I just wanted to get this off my chest.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong but If you are shortening the port it will raise the tuning frequency, a longer port will give you a lower tuning. Yes. that is correct. But I believe (from what I gathered) he asked how tuning changes by moving the port in/out. Not actually making the port shorter. I read though it too quick, you are right sir.
  10. Correct me if I'm wrong but If you are shortening the port it will raise the tuning frequency, a longer port will give you a lower tuning.
  11. Because it is giving the box more airspace since you are removing the displacement of the port (Vise Versa as well)
  12. x2. Menards carries it too but it is expensive I just picked up more mdf @ Menards yesterday. $32.65 for a 3/4" 4 x 8 sheet. I looked at 13 ply birch too and it was $36 for a 4 x 8 sheet so the price difference isn't that much. Baltic Birch at Menards here comes in a 4x8 sheet and is $50. Lumber yard has it for $35 but it's a 5X5 sheet. I ended up having to go with MDF because I needed 8 sheets for my build and couldn't justify $150 for a few pounds.

  14. ^These^ Wherever you live there is another shop around (even if it's Best Buy) that already has a customer base and word of mouth. This is a small business owners #1 factor to being successful. Most places around here host some form of bass comps. If you run an Iasca, Meca, DBDrag, Usaci event you can advertise it on facebook, craigslist, and anywhere else and the organization will market it for you as well. This will attract a lot of non local competitors. Do some really clean installs to demo at the shows. Local competitors will have an opportunity to see very nice custom builds and see that your shops name is all over it. Also find some friends or acquaintances that likes to show off or does a lot of socializing and offer free installs and slap a logo on the car. You're still looking at a long process but it's a start. Also window tinting is a huge money maker, if you can't do it, outsource the labor and get your sales pitch ready while they are waiting on the tint to be finished.
  15. Taking on too much at once (Full rebuilds) Finding the courage to tell the girlfriend how much I just spent on something for the car. (glad I don't have that problem anymore.)
  16. This is based on using the recommended power to the sub as well. Since you are running low power to the sub running a larger enclosure will let the sub move more freely without restriction.
  17. I retract my previous statement I was fixated on your gross volume. Your port area is fine, The box could be a little bigger but overall it looks good. And yes design 1 from your list.
  18. X2. If you're only putting 400 watts to the sub then you can go a little bigger on the box. Your port is very small, right at 10 sq in per cubic ft. It should be around 15 per cube, 12 sq inches is standard prefab. Edit: Scratch my previous statement.
  19. To a point yes. This is where port size will help. More port = less punchy.
  20. He's stating that you can send double the rms power to the subs as long as the box is built to support it. Generally the more power you send to a sub the smaller the box should be.
  21. My 15" mayhems were in a wall tuned to 35 hz. I peaked at 45 hz and completely bottomed on anything below 33 hz. I highly doubt that, youre either doing something wrong, shitty enclosure or a stupid amount of power, my vvxs on a 3.5k at a .5 ohm load didnt bottom out at 28hz when tuned to 36. Wall was 9.18 cubes net with 110 sq inches of port on 2 sundown 3000d @ .5. Build log is in sig with videos on page 3. I did a 150.2 on the dash DBDrag and a 153.8 in the kick, both scores at 45 hz. Playing "Juice Box" I dropped to 148.5. I never got it metered but the bottom note in "On My Level" had no power behind it at all. I tried several other low hz songs and got nothing. So I am doing a rebuild now and tuning to 27 hz. If someone finds the flaw please let me know, I want to tune to 38 hz but I also want my lows.
