  1. Everyone is saying to help build your son a huge system but I respectfully disagree. It took me a long time to respect bass properly. When I just got going, I didn't understand that no one else wants tl hear my shit in their house or at the stop light. It took time for me to learn that and I'm just glad that I had a fairly small system at that period in time or else I would have had some very unhappy neighbors! But hey, maybe he already knows how bass travels and that it doesn't impress others as much as one might think because of all people he is your son and I know you respect others when listening to your system. Awesome whip man! Good luck and to those posting advice for steve like "SMD, 2500bdcp", I wouldn't expect him to listen to you because he is very independent when it comes to his systems.
  2. I was thinking the same thing. Where do you have your volt meter reading at? The amps?
  3. Thanks man. Awesome doing business with you!
  4. This^^^First people bitch about the games being exclusive to the account and now "herp a derp, xbox is going back on their word!" Or "I actually thought it was a good idea" No one is ever satisfied.
  5. Good stuff. What length is that 250 rated at?
  6. 5k total is what he means. And that's if you're lucky. Wired at .7 is still pretty high to expect 2.5 from each. But maybe because you're running 14v you might clamp that much. Only you can tell us, no one will know for sure because not every set up is the same.
  7. Thanks for this, now I can enjoy clip free music and suckle on a funny pacifier at the same time!
  8. I'll throw in that I run at a quarter ohm but I have a very very large amount of impedance rise at the frequencies I usually play. I also have a h/o alternator and do not recommend that anyone run an amp below .5 daily unless they don't care about the their equipment's well being. I except these risks and won't be surprised if anything happens to my amp, subs, or even electrical from such a large amount of draw and unsafe load. But I can get away with it by the hair of my chin impedance wise.
  9. Usually they rate the fuse sizes on the maximum amount of power the amp can produce safely without protect issues. Also, just because the fuse is rated for "250" or "300" doesn't mean the fuse can't handle much more amperage when it's produced in short bursts. A 3k amp at .5 or even .25 amp will have trouble cooking a 300 amper just because usually if the amp isn't crazy underrated it won't pull much more than 300 amps continuously. Maybe for short bursts it will peak higher but at that point the fuse should be able to withstand it because it's not for longer prods of time so the fuse won't heat up as fast.
  10. 90% chance you'll be just fine OP. Especially with a sundown amp; if I was to choose any amp to run at half ohm it would be a sundown product. And actually they rate their fuses with the max amperage the amp can draw for a short period of time and being at a low ohm load is something they take into account while rating these amps. Even though they don't warranty or recommend it.
  11. Even if you're clipping at -15 you shouldn't be popping into protect at 1 ohm nominal. My guess is a bad connection somewhere or you have to bass boost up or something. I would go over everything with a fine toothed comb.
  12. Awesome. I never doubted that sundown for a second. Question, though. I'm assuming the impedance selected is one of a reactive nature? When you chose .5 ohm, was it stressing a half ohm reactive load on the amp? If so, way to go sundown. That's a stout little guy. Thanks Steve, awesome product.
  13. Glad I grabbed mine up while it was available. If you can find one used, grab it up. These things are AWESOME for the price.
  14. Agreed. Tune it to the resonance of the sealed side.
  15. I agree. I started with 18 here and that's what my box seemed to like. I've also heard that half of the cone area of your subs is a place to start. But take that with a grain of salt.
  16. I'd keep the tweets up front as well.
  17. I wasn't questioning the amplifiers ability to handle .5 ohm. I was questioning his electrical to supply enough current for the amp at .5 ohm due to his alternator being on the small side
  18. Running that amp at a 1ohm load you should be just fine! .5 is a maybe..
  19. Its been done before many times. Been many a member loan there SCOPES, or TOOLs out. MANY times..... This forum is where its at for MANY many reasons. The people on it are one of them........ Remember that... I wasn't aware. The trust in this community is an awesome thing, sir!
  20. The whole renting dd-1/ cc-1 thing is a cool idea.. Maybe have someone put in a deposit and pay for shipping and when the item is returned you can give them part of their deposit back or something.
