I gurantee its because the sub is new give it 2 weeks and it'll go away i've had 4 xl's all of them did the same.

This is why I advise him to touch the dustcap.

How do you know he isn't clipping it? Don't guarantee nothing you don't know for a fact.

This guy could take you advise, ignore the smell, and end up blowing his sub, because you really didn't know for a fact.

That's one problem with internet forums, people askes questions, and get answers from others who act like they really know something but don't.

Save us all the headache. People really need to realize their comments could have effect on peoples life.

Obviously he should do that first I was figuring he wasn't a dumbfuck tho and would do that anyways Mr I know everything and I can condescend on whatever I want to.

I am going to recommend that you invest in a good oscope to properly tune your entire system. You need to check the signal coming from you HU to your sub amp to be sure that there is no clipping there and then once that signal is clean you need to set your gain with the oscope as well to be sure there is no clipping there.

You aren't getting a "clamped" 1800.

It's rated at 1800 @ 2 ohms, that doesn't mean that's what you're clamping.

Probably clipping which is why you're smelling them.

who burnt their coils 4 times?

ever think if the same person keeps burning subs... it could be the user?

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

I wouldn't say they burn easy... I slinkied a couple XL coils and literally bent/creased/broke the formers... I got the burnt coil smell, but by the time I caught the smell, it was too late... (but, that was with about 4kw going to each one and brand new...) Don't know if that helps...

Some of my problem was prolly clipping as well because I was getting a sever voltage drop also...

But... as others said... you might wanna back down on it a lil because you might be pushing the coil a lil too much with the subs not being broke in...
