Hey, just curious, do the smd subs not require a lot of port area? i was looking at the member builds and you guys might have seen this guy thats putting 2 15" smd's in his jetta. the port looks to be like 5 or 6 x 16 or so, which is only like 80-100 cubes, and his box is 8 cubes. thats only like 10-13" per cube. i also recall that steve's is pretty damn small too for (4) 18's!

I hear they like a smaller box and a lower tune im guessing the low tuning is where small port area comes into play

Your talking about my car lol and the port is actually 18 x 4 x 23 and tuned at 33hz. these subs are made for smaller boxes

Steves box is not built for the SMD subs, it is built for the old triple stacked btls, then the single slug btls where put in there, and now the smds.

The smd 18s subs call for 4 to 7 cubed per sub which is not really that much smaller compared to the mayhem 18 that calls for 5-8 cubed. I had mayhems in a box up to 9.5 per sub already without issues.

Again using 12-16 square inches of port per cubed.

I suggest lots of port 15-16 sq inches per cube and 6-7 cubed per sub if your running 3000rms or less to the woofer.

Running anything less then 14 sq inches of port per cube on a 18 is really limiting the woofers ability to get loud.

Steves box was actually made with the rf's

Well, when he had 2 rf 18's.. Hell cant remember if he went straight to mt's or not.

Been awhile.

Anywho.. What people get away with and what is optimal are two different things.

I would try 5.5each and 18per..

And go from there

does any one know the specs of steves box? Has he giving it out ?

Iirc he said 4.3 cubes per sub, tuned to 30 Hz. I believe he was around 100sqin total. I read it from one of his posts...probably the Tahoe buildlog.

I saw in your thread and still feel you need port area. That may work but doesn't seem optimal at all.
