I have a stock deck and never got hit!!! I moved the trunk pop button from inside the glove box so if it happens they don't get nosy and see all the s--- in there! I got FULL insurance and asked my ins. co. if the need serial #'s or pics of my equipment, they said "no, just tell us what you had...." WOW!!!!

back in the early 90's my bro had his blazer broken into about a month after he had his alarm installed. they clipped the siren wires. went out the next morning and the truck was all tore up. stupid thing is I had left the face for my radio in his console as my truck was in the shop. thieves took my face and his deck. I'm still bitter thinkin about it. ....

Maybe I'm lucky but since owning a DEI 2way unit (991) w/ Smart start no one has even tried.my blazer had 991 with the vocalarm add on and never got touched either. I always use the factory horn that way they cant just look for a siren and rip it off. All my wires under the hood are in the factory loom so they wont see anything anyway. I also have 1/0 from front to rear and the big 3. there are lots of steps to take to make it more difficult but if they wamt it they will get it :(

lower tuning is just hard. I was surprised how loud 145 sounds at 35hz, and how quiet 145 sounds at 50hz.

The best way to protect yourself with an alarm is to have door triggers hooked up, hood and trunk trigger and dome supervision on a long range 2 way alarm. Most shops only hook up either dome or door triggers and leave it at that so you will want to ask specifically for this and then test their install so you don't get hosed. Shock sensors should be sensitive enough that a light smack sets off warning chirps. They must be firmly mounted too. Not just ziptied to dangling wires. Alarms aren't too difficult to install but are difficult to hide. Anytime I do an alarm at work I seperate the needed wires by where they are going then tape them all with black electrical tape to make them less noticeable. Sometimes i'll put split loom on the thicker bundles to make it even more factory appearing.

work at a shop. ^^^^^^^this is the truth. Also get a motion detector and make sure it is set right.

God damn its hot today. My balls are stuck to my leg.

My question is how long have you been installing?

It seems like you know what your talking about, but what I have bolded kinda worries me.

Im assuming you are talking about the older directed units where they actually instruct the installer to mount the shock sensor loosely with zip ties around a group of wires.

I know when I was doing alarms I tested this in my own Cadillac because that did not seem right at all. Needless to say the loose wires made the shock sensor a lot more sensitive then securing it tightly.

But with the newer directed units and the shock sensors built into the brain it is a completely different story, Im still not sure if I like it better or not tho.

Oh and Glass Break sensors will also be a good cheap plug and play addition to any alarm!!

Since most people cant break a window on the first hit, the sensor will instantly trigger the alarm.

i hate those onboard shock sensors. Most of the new Vipers have a port for an external shock sensor.

would be great if you could wire your SRS airbags to the alarm. Put alarm on silent mode. 2 immediate triggers from a motion detector would trip a relay which would deploy an airbag right in their face. Then when they are knocked the fuck out, you can come up and rob them. Steal their wallet, plant some weed on them, etc.

Some things are being mentioned here as to why I will never let a shop install my alarm. Bad hiding spots, skipping sensors or triggers. I just hate I can't install a damn viper smart start without a dealer... I took my entire dash out to hide my alarm where you can not reach it nor the back up battery without taking the whole dash out. Plus all the sensors you can add the better. I have all that directed offers.

Do I still worry about my car sometimes? Yeah. But only that my window will get busted. Two way remote on the night stand guarantees I will be outside in less then 15 seconds when I hear it. But you still can't atop a broken window if someone wants to try. Also. If in a car. Unhook you trunk lock so a key can not open it. I also rewired the trunk pop so it only works with the key in and car on or my remote. Since that's where the most expensive stuff is.
