Mikesmith0890
I got a nice Acer Aspire, 500gb HDD, 4gb memory, windows 7, 15.6" screen and blu-ray player for under $750. Oh and its the i3 core processor, true HDMI out. Only downside is the intel integrated HD graphics, it works fine but i would have preferred a dedicated video card. UnderLoK
I would go with Toshiba... Their R705 is one of their lighter models and while it's small it's still quick. You would have to look into it though I don't remember if it has a BD or not. Avoid HP. Mine lasted less than a year, and judging by the response I've seen online, that's not entirely uncommon. I know Dell normally has some hella good deals in their outlet store. The outlet computers are normally computerrs customers return and may have some signs of light use, but you get a full warranty with them. I personally don't mind B-Stock as long as its not completely beat to shit and functions 100%. You may find value in the knowledge that you have a perfect computer. I don't. UnderLoK
My opinion? Avoid HP. Mine lasted less than a year, and judging by the response I've seen online, that's not entirely uncommon. If you're going to spend under $800 or $900 HP is not a wise choice. They make great laptops, but not in the cheap catagory. Same holds true for most. We have hundreds of Elitebooks we support and they are literally problem free unless a user breaks it (drop, broken usb port, etc). The only one to have a problem in the last 1.5 years was a dead battery. I personally don't mind B-Stock as long as its not completely beat to shit and functions 100%. You may find value in the knowledge that you have a perfect computer. I don't. The only time I buy or suggest b-stock is from Apple. Mainly because I've never snagged one from any other company. I got my unibody MB years ago (4 maybe) for $850 when the new ones were $1400 (or maybe it was 1200 I forget). It came clean as clean could be and if the model was used and referb they replace the trackpad and keyboard so you don't wind up with a used one. Slap Windows on it and you're good to go. IMO the best 3 manufacturers of laptops are Toshiba, HP, and Apple (in that order). That is from personal and work experience over the last 15+ years. The 4 Dells I've had didn't last more than a couple years max and one died 9 days out of warranty, but again when you are talking "cheap" laptops I don't think any of them qualify as reliable. Cheap laptops are viewed as nothing more than a bandaid meaning that in a year or two it's time to move on. If you spend the extra money odds are your laptop will last for years to come. I have 2 Satellites here that are over 10 years old and still work (the one is my firewall). Apple makes great laptops, but they're way to pricey. I love Dell.
