How can I tell what type of Fi Sub it is?

Recommended Posts

Hey, have a question. A friend of mine recently bought a Fi 15" subwoofer. I believe it is a BTL, but I'm not for sure. Are there any markings or special way to tell what series the subwoofer is? I've been comparing the pictures from the website, and its definitely not a Q or an X. But I can't compare it to the BL or the BTL because the sub has the saucer style magnet, but the pics on the sites of the BL and BTL have stacked magnets. Any help is appreciated.

besides the magnet i think there's something with how the magnet is cooled

Got a scale? weigh yourself, then grab the sub and weigh yourself. Find out the difference. If it weighs around 80 pounds, then you know it's a BTL.

LOL isn't that the saucer style in your sig?

I'm not 100% sure but I think the BTL had the 11 inch single slug saucer magnet.

Why not weight sub by it self

The motor of a sub can be a strong enough magnet that it can throw the scale of slightly. There was a 3 pound difference with weighing a level 5 on my scale in my house. It came out heavier when it was just the sub.

Also, measure the diameter of the motor, that should work too.

If its a ufo i'd say its a btl, post a pic and I'm sure someone can tell you exactly what it is. Or weigh it as stated above, just hold it and hop on a scale then subtract your weight.

Okay, so yeah, the saucer is about as big as the 15" sub itself. Thats why I say when I was comparing pics from the website, the Q motor looked way small under the basket. But, the sub ways approximately 76 pounds.
