JL Audio / Studio Six Digital Iphone App vs. Termlab meter

Recommended Posts

Why cant people understand that the Iphone apps or any of those other BS apps do NOT work because is high pressured cabins they distort... I agree with alpine if you are going to calibrate with a TL then why not just do the whole damn thing that way

Sensai, why don't you focus the negativity to the professionals who created the app, Studio Six Digital -> http://www.studiosixdigital.com/ and to JL Audio for sponsoring it.

Oh, to answer your question, -50 is what you set the mic calibration on the app so that is also reads 0. Then when you go to test your sound system and you get a reading on the TL, the reading in the app might be the same *(that is the theory i've been curious to test all along).

On a side note, I do remember when they had yelling competitions years ago at car audio shows where you did yell into the metered mic and whoever yelled the loudest won.

that was a the older mic... that was actually a mic... this is a pressure sensor... different stuff you are trying to compare....

The negativity goes to you who created this post to have folks thinking they can download this "app" and calibrate it to give the same reading as a termlab. YOU are the one who is giving out wrong information not the ones who created this amp. YOU are the one that doesn't understand what a PRESSURE SENSOR is. YOU are the one who can't seem to understand and I don't want YOU to be giving out false information to those who don't know better. But I am done trying to explain to YOU how wrong you are, so get your little "app" calibrated all you want and the next show you go to thinking you are doing what that mic says and you get your ass waxed, think about this post!

On another note:

If I scream louder into your "app" and it registers 56 and i scream again into the termlab and it registers 0, do i set your "app" to -56 now?

what if I have my dog bark into this app and it registers 26db and i have my dog bark into the termlab and it registers 0.00 do i set it to -26db ?

*sigh*

I must say i am very proud of myself for not flying off the handle, but I am going to put an end to all this false information given by forum members who have no clue what the fuck they are talking about.

@Team DC-Derrick, true.

I don't think either company would spend thousands of dollars, and countless man hours on an app that they didn't consider useful. I mean if you want to Sensai, why don't you knock Crown Audio, Inc.'s Powered by Crown $3.99 app to control and monitor Crown Ethernet enabled devices and JBL Professional Drivepack DPDA models from your iphone or ipad while you are in field testing for a concert show.

THe problem you have is that a Termlab measures bass which is pressure. Higher frequencies are also pressure/soundwaves but termlab isn't sensitive enough.A mic is a bad way to read dB's.dB is a measurement of pressure. Microphones don't have a linear response when measuring pressure and there is a point where it just can't measure more, and with a phone mic the limit is low.

JL only supports it because they spread their name for free. And it doesn't says that JL supports it...

JL just wants to make money. This app cannot read bass pressure correctly. You can set it correct for 1 frequency at 1 level but any difference in frequency or level or even weather can make the reading different.

EDIT: Quakecity, why would you think they have put in hours of work for this app? This app is usefull for the calculator and polarity test and maybe freqeuncy response but still it is probably way off because the freq response of a cellphone isn't flat.

This is what the app link said: "Like all sound measurement apps, accuracy varies somewhat between devices, and some models of iPhone and iPod touch don't include mics. "

They even admit it doesn't works properly.

Thinking is the root of all problems...

You ALWAYS get what you pay for.

Tested it against a termlab, didn't work. Even "calibrated" would be all over the place and not reliable.

Piece of garbage.

Quit thinking you know shit that you don't.

Have a nice day.

Low voltage doesn't blow amps. That's a myth.
