what causes this? how can i test for it? what can i do to lower it back to the nominal impedance?

id really appreciate some help, ik im a noob. already searched google, got some results, but its all a different language to me.

2 Alpine Type R 12"s in 4 cubes tuned to 35hz

American Bass VFL 80.1 amp @ 1 ohm (probably doing between 1000 and 1300rms)

Stock alt, Stock batt, Big 3 Upgrade

Boston s55- 5 1/4s (doors)

Boston s95- 6x9s (rear deck)

Of course there's a science for it. Is it worth it? Most likely not...there is A LOT of testing, rebuilding, testing, rebuilding involved.

Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

I just stumbled on this also seems unless you look into it real hard hardly anybody is getting the rms they are thinking they are getting with their sub and amp combination. The box is very important to minimize rise in order to get the most power to sub. Or something like that.

basically unless you plan on seriously competing or seriously getting in car audio, dont worry about rise... :shrug:

it happens, it will always happen to some degree, and theres not much you can do about it. build test build test and when you got it figured out, build and test some more. In daily setups rise of 2-3x is not uncommon shoot even more than that.

one thing to note: DO NOT wire to lower impeadences, just to combat rise. ie:. wiring to below 1 ohm thinking rise will keep you safe. yes it can be done, yes with proper precautions and procedure, it can be done with relative and i mean relative safety. but for the average person or even the average enthusiast doing so will yield minimal gains and cause maximum stress on the equipment.

WinISD has a caluculator for impedance rise. I'm not quite sure how accurate it is, or if I've completely understood it. However, it seems quite clear that the rise is the lowest aroudn the frequencies of the tuning. From there it rises both at lower and higher frequences in a U-shape, of around 15-20hz where rise is low. Ex, My soloX 18; 190L 32hz tuning the imp.rise peaks at 42hz. It seems that higher tuning will lower the peak.
