Server upgrade last night - 8 gigs

Recommended Posts

its not a home pc thats why. And since its hosted by a company its how they get you.

FB-DIMM's are not "home PC" ram ; )

As to the cost, there's no way it should be costing that much. Really for the price if this is a drop in the bucket you could build your own server and have it co-located or even just upgrade the home/shop network and put it there ; )

but whatever, its faster.. who cares :D

server to run this shit at the shop or at his house? Do you even have a clue how many fiber lines it takes to carry the bandwidth that this place eats just in a one minute time frame? Get real dude.

Steve, show people what your actual monthly bandwidth use is so they stop with stupid ass comments like this please .

Why yes, I do actually have a clue, thank you very much.

We used to run xtremesystems.org from an office. Worked fine. 10x the users that are here :)

Used to. Until you realized that wasn't enough and bought a dedicated server...

Oh yeah, and your site does this

500 Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Reason: Error parsing access file

Tells me enough about how much you know...

P.S. just that took about 5-8 seconds to load...and it's not my cable.

What makes you think the systems its been on have never been dedicated hardware?

Try this link, we just upgraded the software so the front page isnt working (front page has been iffy for a long time though actually, i'll admit that) at the moment: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/

As to 5-8 seconds, meh. Cant accurately benchmark a connection problem from a one-time load, let alone after a software upgrade for a forum that hosts as many users as XS does.

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.
