i have 2 15's in my trunk, and i want to go smaller. my plan is to go with 4 12's or 6 10's. i was just wondering which would have greater cone area? i'd really like to go with 6 12's, but don't think i have enough room in my trunk to get the proper air space. the 2 15's i have now are in a 10cube box, and i don't think i have enough airspace, which is why i want to go with smaller subs. any help is appreciated.

Do the math yourself...

Cone Area = (pi) x (r^2) x (number of drivers)

And 10 cubes should be fine for two 15's.

And is that 10 cubes box before or after displacements?

before. and i don't necessarily mean "smaller", just meant smaller subs. and the reason i think i don't have enough airspace is because when i open my trunk a few inches, it gets louder and hits harder.

6 10's and 4 12's would be have about the same effective cone area but the twelves would have slightly more. i would go with the tens

Acoustic mofo. just new subs would prob make you happy with same the box.
