LOL Well.. you know rockford fosgate's marketing policy is "design 3000 watt amp, market it as 2500 watts, price it like 5000 watts" so what else is going on in this thread? this is also very true with most brands stated above like Sundown and DC they are VERY fairly priced i would rather have a sundown 2500 over a rockford anyday Btw that was the first person. That's very true, I do think there quite a bit over priced. I didn't pay that for mine though. I just thought it was a good example to what the ops was saying in the first post. OH i see now. someone has a vague to non existant understanding of the vast and unpredictable dynamics of the car audio world. SUBS Subs power ratings are based off multiple design points. Coil winding type, wire gauge, suspension characteristics, cone weight (yes..) cooling ability (air flow through the motor), etc. Boxes (built or bought by the consumer, sub manufacturer has NO control over this) affect power handling. Music quality being pumped through it (clipping) how utterly STUPID the owner is - full blast volume for long periods of time, gain knob as volume knob, not giving a shit in general. Even atmosphere can affect a sub. AMPS This one's a little easier to explain and a lot more complicated in changing. Like it or not, All those special amps that people nuthug so damn much are built on an assembly line, usually in chinasia. The components of the amps -resistors, capacitors, diodes, torrids - ALL have varying tolerances to them. The tighter the tolerances of said components, the more expensive they are, driving up cost to the end consumer. So amp companies over engineer their product to make sure they always do over rating (well. the good companies at least). the lower (higher number) tolerance percentage used (rated like 5%, 10%, etc) the more varyance there is from amp to amp. Just like when you look at birthsheets of RF amps. 2 amps may have the same exact (part number, brand) components in them, but wind up putting out 500 watts difference. Now you guys stop it with your damn crybaby shitfest and learn WTF you're actually talking about before your little "rants"
