Car died, wont start. Help =(

Recommended Posts

I was driving today, going about 15mph and my car just shuts off. When I tried to start it back up it acted like the battery was dead, the starter sounded weak. So I called my roommate to come give me a jump since i was only 2 blocks away. We tried jump starting it and it did the same thing, so I figured my front battery was finally toast. I had it towed home and went and bought a new battery. Just installed the battery a few minutes ago and its still doing the same thing...WTF.

The starter sounds weak and then stops like my engines on a bind or something. Any ideas?

a bit dangerous, but try jumping the wire on the starter....from the main power wire to the selonoid (pocket screwdriver or something). Leave the ignition off, you just want to see if it turns over freely.

There is no way a new battery died in a few minutes. without more diags its hard to say but you may have a starter going bad.

EDITED

Oh, and double check your ground. I have had to remove the rubber shield around the stock ground cable to the battery post before. It wasnt making good contact (another GM).

bad starter won't cause it to just die while running :)

Could be CPS, timing belt, or electrical short.
