Smoove
Digging through my garage I found 2 never used Lightning Audio 1 Farad Caps. Can a Cap go bad just sitting around for years (at least 7yrs) like a battery can?? I am trying to figure out if I should sell them cheap or just throw them out. I doubt it though, hook em up and see if they hold voltage.

carshateme
Caps are suppose to hold their voltages or whatever power the have in them...but you're suppose to drain out the power before disconnecting them and recharging them back up with power when you are re using it. Like mad mike said, Check it.....but like every "battery" they eventually lose their holding power. Edited December 28, 2011 by carshateme Quote New build coming soon. snafu
Unlikely. I just sold a friend much the same, a LA 1F cap I hadn't used since 2003. I charged it up via a few resistors wired in series and it worked like always. Quote Tony Candela - SMD Sales & Marketing Email me at [email protected] to learn about becoming an SMD Partner! AMI CUSTOMS
They are more then likely fine, caps don't normally go bad unless you have put to high of a voltage to them. The way a cap is made allows them to work pretty much forever. Smoove
Seems like everyone here uses battery's. Lbox88
Caps also go bad if you bash them off of something good and hard and dent it. Sell them and use the money towards something else though. Quote UBL | Build Log
