Legal question

So I have started building boxes and doing installs for people in my local area, and posted prices around half of that of a local shop.. Where as I figured the little extra income would help fund my current build. I call it Bakerz Audio. Long story short one of the two local businesses found out what I was doing and had one of their employees tell me the owner isn't to happy with me cutting IMO his business and he knows I know enough people to take quite a bit of his larger clients and a lot of smaller ones as well.. Profit wise right now I bring in 100-150 extra a week where as I do it in my spare time which is nothing to substantial but the way people have been calling and askin for some serious installs that may change..

My question is will this have any legal reprucusions where as I have no business license and no legal business so the govt and state aren't taxing what i make.. So if "car stuff" the local shop pushes the issues and have legals breathing down my neck will I get in trouble and if I could how can a fix this situation

i wouldnt think so. as long as its just you, and your doing it out of your garage or something like that. if it was illegal then every kid doing a car washing service, or having a lawn mowing service would be getting locked up.

Depends on your state. I know that you can bring in somewhere around 10k a year before you need a business license, just claim it on taxes and keep track of your expenses so you don't get fucked and owe a bunch of money. A business license is around $25 if you're looking to stick it to the local shops, and they make free computer programs you could use to keep track of sales and expenses.

Thank you sir, that's about what i was thinking, I am not really looking to stick it to the local shop, just to simply give people an alternstive that doesnt cost as much, an i also know the installer and a few employees of the one that is but hurt, I've never talked bad about them, just I think they are over priced, as in charging 350 for a simple slot port box for 2 l5 15s where as I would charge 150-200 out the door..

Any ideas on what these programs are called, I was thinking Microsoft exell. But it just seems sort of lame..

And one more question what do u mean about the takes thing? I've only ever filed taxes once so I'm not as knowledgable on the subject as i should be where as my mother filled them on turbo tax for me

You can make an LLC for around $250. IMO that's the best route, along with some insurance.

Yea I get introuble and say the govt can disregard the constitutional laws why can't I? Yes that would fly over quite well, tho I would b half tempted to bring it up

But my mother has her degree in business management and is self employed as a home day care provider (top 5 on the east coast) not to brag to much... I didn't want to ask her for fear of her not accepting it but maybe she can help me..
