I heard this months ago and from what I read/looked up was that it was a one time incident where the wording was changed (for whatever reason). The wording can vary from service to service, however this is the "preferred" wording for each group. Army: On behalf of the President of the United States and the people of a grateful nation, may I present this flag as a token of appreciation for the honorable and faithful service your loved one rendered this nation. Marine Corps: On behalf of the President of the United States, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and a grateful nation, please accept this flag as a symbol of our appreciation for your loved one's service to Country and Corps. Navy: On behalf of the President of the United States and the Chief of Naval Operations, please accept this flag as a symbol of our appreciation for your loved one's service to this Country and a grateful Navy Air Force: On behalf of the President of the United States, the Department of the Air Force, and a grateful nation, we offer this flag for the faithful and dedicated service of [service member's rank and name]. (NOTE: If the next of kin has expressed a religious preference or belief, add: "God bless you and this family, and God bless the United States of America.") The difference from past elections to this last one is marginal...something like 95% comapred to 92%, and just 2% more Black voters than the previous election(13% vs 11%). Young White, Asian, and Hispanic voters are what got Obama into office...and I'd venture to say they didn't vote for him because he's Black. I'm not a fan of what Obama turned into as far a being a president but he is no more or less socialist than previous presidents (with some exceptions of course). The problem isn't the president or even democrat/republican, it's greedy lieing ass politicians. They all get into office for one reason, to take our money. Did i vote for obama? yeah but on ignorance alone, i just voted for whoever. Would i change my vote if i could? Yeah but what good would it do. There are variations to what the presiding officer says and it is no shit at the discretion of that officer, and is usually at a near whisper to the next of kin. In my case, the GO usually said "on behalf of a grateful Nation...". No one EVER questions what they say. I have been to funerals from Saint Louis to Arlington to Dallas to NC to VA... weather you like the guy or not, supporting flat out disinformation is doing nothing for our Country... And yes, I believe he was voted in based on his race. It was a record voting turnout, and mostly from those who rarely even vote. "Let me be a part of voting in the first black president". When it should be the best candidate overall.... ...even though they are all fucked up. I never said it was only blacks that voted for him. It was ignorant people from all races that did. This time around I am not so sure he is the best option. For me, I'm thinking Ron Paul may be the way to go but that is still a ways off to decide. Most of the problem is it is so difficult to get real information about what is going on. Everything is so spun and taken out of context you never know what is true, partially true, partially made or just flat out a lie. The shitty thing is this country really needs a strong group of people who work together without personal agendas. I'd like to think that is possible, but big business and old money have a LOT of power in this nation. It's pathetic what the leaders of our country have come to. With all that said, give me my 1/4 acre lot and house in this country EVERY DAY!!! I know we have it WAY better here than most people in the world do, and for that I'm thankful.
