I have gone through freq's from 25-60hz with 3 different setups; single 12 sub up port rear, the 2 10's firing forward, and the two 18's walled. Highest SPL was at 31, 32, and 35 respectively.

I can use this box to do that test if you want though, i'll plug the port and add bricks to make it 1 cube. I just don't understand what that accomplishes.

it tells you what the car wants to play

so you wont fight the car like you are right now

you dont have to tune there im just trying to get your mind accustomed to the fact that your car is not wanting 31 hz

40 hz is a very solid tuning. and it will still play low if you build it so the f3 is low enough

Yes that's the loudest THAT BOX, will get. But if your chasing numbers, tuning to 49hz or whatever the fuck your CARS peak is will yield a higher number.

In other words, your cabin has a certain response profile that doesn't change, regardless of the box and its tuning (well unless you wall it and change the actual dimensions of the cabin , but after the wall it will have a new response profile that won't change). For example the cabin might peak at 38 Hz while dip at 31Hz. If you make a box tuned to 31 Hz that actually peaks at 31 Hz then you are "fighting" cabin. Thus, it would benefit you to instead design the box to peak at 38 Hz so you gang up on the cabin peak and reach the highest SPL. The difference may just be 1 db from your current setup or it may be 3 db or more. The point is unless you know what the response profile for your cabin is, you won't really know what to build your box to.

Another thing, just because you're not hitting 150+ doesn't mean the system isn't louder. Metering high doesn't necessarily equal loud and vice versa.
