So this takes me into the absolute worst aspect of this specific project......wiring.

Didn't sound to bad when I was thinking this up initially...but I was wrong :o

This was the first attempt where I quickly found out that the stock wiring holes on the right side of the trunk were no where near big enough for all the wiring I needed.

849-lid%20wiring_zpsikwwfsmz.jpg

This lead to me punch the other holes on the left side, as you saw in the previous pictures.

The worst part was fishing a bundle of wires up the side of the trunk lid, inside that channel.

There is a curve at the top which liked to grab the wires and not let them slide through easily.

Also helped that I forget a wire or two and had to pull the wires out and start over because they had to be fished all together. :aggressive:

Then there is another problem I encountered due to the "scissor" action of the trunk lid hinges which I'll get more into later.

So this was a beast of a project, but I like how its turning out.

Stay tuned. I have pics of the finished lid panel coming along with another out-of-the-box addition that I think you'll like!

:D

Man, you know how ocd I am about matching my shit. But looking at those PPI amps I swear I'm drooling . THose are sooooo sexy!!

The trunk lid is no joke. I loved how mine was turning out in the civic, but the one problem I ran into was making sure the lid would open and close easily and the stock springs just did not account for that. You have actuators so I'm guessing those will do a better job, and I'm sure you have something up your sleeve to take it up another couple dozen notches (I hate you sometimes, and I mean that in the most endearing way, A-HOLE!).

Good idea doing the second hole on the other side too btw. In that pic above there's a SHITLOAD of wires going through there. But it still looks sexy.

Oh also, when you were talking about the handles and covering them in vinyl etc, I was going to ask, why didn't you just flock it like the other stuff? Any plans for handles? Maybe you could use some kitchen cabinet handles, like the stainless steel bar ones. Just a thought. I'll await your perfection to be revealed.

Nice work! Almost makes me miss my trunk! :drink40:

Yeah...I would like to match bass and highs amps...but I'm just too big of a fan of old school amps so this had to be done. :P

The air-shocks help a little. There's a LOT of weight on the trunk lid so that scissor hinge does have a benefit in that it really holds the lid up when opened.

Last thing I would want is the lid crashing down if it tilted a little bit, but it holds open really well.

But you do have to be really careful, cuz when you tilt it down to close the trunk, you get all the weight in your hand so I have to be very careful to close it slowly and controlled.

I don't have the long hinge arms that you had with your Civic. So I cant really do an electric actuator which would be the way I'd prefer it. Ohh well.

Those "pull-down" handle inserts help when you want to close the trunk lid and were handy when the lid was empty and it took some force to pull it down.

With all the weight on it now, it drops with no problem, so the handles aren't needed.

Therefore I just covered them up with body filler.

I could have flocked it, but flocking is a bit delicate and I wanted something a bit tougher. I have to man-handle this amp panel to install it on the trunk lid so its nice to not have to worry about wearing off the covering material.

Great points.

Oooo, lol see I'm a sick man, maybe Caroline what's her name could paint your DC amp to match LMAO! Ok forget me, I'm tarded!!

I hear everything you're saying about the trunk. When I was working at the prison, I got out and opened and closed it for the guard at the gate because she was not so strong so instead of risking an injury, on my behalf, I just did the work for her. There were times it slipped out of my hands and I though the panel with amps and processor were going to come crashing down off the lid. Just get your hands out of there if that happens! LOL. Ask me how I know!

Keep up the good work man!! I wanna see more!
