Christopher Fox Posted May 13, 2012 Author Report Posted May 13, 2012 I have a question... it's probably a really simple question but when I set my filter to 60 or 80hz, is it filtering everything above that? So if I set it to 80hz, would I also set my mids to crossover at 80hz so I'm not missing any frequencies? edit: The amp has a 250a fuse that came with it (no fuses on the amp itself, just this big ass one that's like an inline amp?)
Guest Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 My box is a 3.5 cu ft. ported box tuned at 32hz. It's filtered for low frequency only, the amp is a monoblock class D. When I played bass I love you I was actually scared I was going to destroy the subs because they were moving so much. While they are moving a ton, it's almost like the frequency is too low to hear, or the sound just isn't making its way into the cabin. they're moving a lot on that song because you're playing notes way under box tuning. you'll fuck your subs up in no time if you keep doing that.

So I need to build a box that's tuned even lower? Am I better off going with a sealed box? I wouldn't have to worry about this right? I knew it wasn't good for my subs so I turned it off immediately after seeing how far they came out. and Kranny, you have a Corolla? That's exactly what this is in right now, a 97 corolla.
JesseyMclame Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 This is actually a good thread to me, a buddy of mine has a Ford Explorer and just bought 3 of these Pioneer Champion series' subs, and they're each in a sealed box, in their own chamber with roughly 1-1.5 cube's each after displacement, and they are not loud at ALL for being 3 12's. they're wired to 2 ohms seeing like 400 rms a piece. Current setup in my 96 Hoe Hu - Pioneer DEH-80prs. Amps - (4) Crossfire C5 1700D's, MTX Thunder 5604(mids), PPI Art 300.2 (tweets) Batts - 4 91ah rear batts, 50ah batt up front. Subs - 2 Crossfire XSv2 18's Alt - Singer 330A Front stage - Random JL & Eclipse mids, Eclipse tweets

Your choice of music and your amplifier setting is the reason your subs aren't giving you the output you want. Your sub has a resonant frequency around 40 hertz. That means it performs very well in that range. To play below your tuning and below the range that the subwoofer naturally is loudest at, your output is going to suck. Try what I said. Retune your amp and play a song that works well with your box tuning. Waka Flocka - No hands should play well if your box is tuned to what you say it is. 35 hz + Cabin gain and resonant frequency of your car play a huge part in how your car reacts to your box tuning. Give us some pictures of your setup. Well be glad to help you out. Everything from the front battery to your amp including pictures of your deck settings and your crossover settings on your amp. Guest Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 there is no point in playing music thats like 25hz. 32hz is like the lowest you should tune daily. anything lower and you'll start to lose high note bass output.
