Adding a Master Switch for your car?

Recommended Posts

So i want everything in my system to be turned off and on with their own switch, and then a master switch. i have a lot of lights and im going to have fans and such. right now. I run a wire from battery to a switch, and then to my underdash lights. that works good for a small setup. but im getting this distributer . . . the main wire is going to be a fused 4 gauge strait from the front battery. and then each accessory from that (this only has 6, im getting one with 15) im going to put in a switch for each one. my questions is how to put a switch on the 4 gauge wire?

i am also going to have some extra batteries in the rear with a few runs of 0 gauge running up front but this 4 gauge will be to the front battery

suggestions?

you could do a circuit breaker for the 4 gauge. thats the only thing i can see being used realistically

I found this. .. if i put it like under my dash where its reachable is that ok? as in does it matter where it is realative to the battery or whatever?valetbreaker_med.jpg

you could use a battery isolator solenoid and use the turn on input to switch it on or off

i was going to suggest one of those circuit breakers too. just have it go in to one side, out the other. and make sure the fuse rating is bigger than what your wire is fused at. you want that acting as a switch, not a fuse.

Hit up CE Electric, looks like thats where you got the distro block. Snafu should know what you should use.

I was going to suggest this.

You can either:

Try to switch off all the small switches (loads) before you cut the master.

Mechanically switching a high current line will lead to arcing on the contacts which will increase your inline resistance and cause voltage drops.

It'll be damn expensive but a solid state DC relay would be a great option.

Mikey,

I do this all the time. Hit me up at any of the above and give me some specifics on exactly what you want to turn on/off and I'll help you out. I can custom make you anything you need in regards.

Thanks guys for the referral.
