4-Channel Current Draw Question

Recommended Posts

(un-like some 4 dollar hookers we have around here)

Ahem.

No need to disguise it when you're talking about me lol.

I've run a 4 channel only using 2 of the channels for years. Recently hooked up the other 2 channels and have had no problems. So as stated above, if there's no power going into those channels, no signal is being amplified. Thus, less amp draw throughout the amp.

Lets simplify

Take and amp, that has been installed. Clamp it. Now, remove the rca's coming in (signal) Sound stops. So, to me, there is NO draw. The amp, is just chilling,.... has a light on to say its on, and.... thats about it. Please, tell me if i have mis-understood the issue at hand. The beers have been going down fantastic for the last 2 hours, since lunch. So i dont mean to come off as a fuck face.

Being a electronics technician, I would not power a amplifier up with out a source load to it ...

It was just a suggestion from me ...

It may work for you Sir ... Try it ...

There is a load to half the channels. And its only for 5-10 seconds at a time. Do you think the current draw through the power wire will be less than if all four are hooked up? If I had a clamp I would test it.

Running the amp that way is fine ... just leave the RCAs plugged up to the source and turn the source off so the amp can see the source ground.

It doesn't care if it has a output load on it or not ...

Wtf in this whole thread, just unplug those two RCAs at the amp and the amp WILL draw half the current and it won't hurt a fucking thing. How the hell is it going to hurt the amp? A 4 channel amp has two independent gains, meaning they are seperate. One for front and one for rear. They are not tied together in anyway. So if one set has no RCA input signal it won't damage anything.

Think about what is going on in a amp ... its ALWAYS making amplication of signal ... Thats why you hear people on this forum say that you do not use your gain control knob as a volume control ... its job is to make power

Would you run a washing machine with no water ?? same principle ...

I'm lost...How can it make an amplification of a signal if there isn't one to begin with? (no rcas connected) Not trying to be a dick, just asking
