Other subs that take as much or more power than an SMD?

Recommended Posts

Well, SMD's are gone. Right now I'm looking at the DC lvl 6, DD9518SC or the z, but realistically I think I'm gonna wait to see what AA has coming out for the new SMD. I don't see them downgrading from the old one. If I can find a good price on some DD's I will prob get them.

Hey bud. I just noticed this thread. I've been doing mad research just like you in terms of replacing my SMD's and what options there are.

DD9518SC will take that power for minimal periods but nothing extended.

DC Level 6 I have no clue.

DD9918Z will handle the least amount of power. It's a 3" coil and even though it's Neo that doesn't give it magical properties in terms of handling power. I've been talking to DD and they recommend 3.5k-4k daily for the Z. However, they can take huge amounts of power for bursts(10k according to DD)

I'm leaning towards going more efficient over what can handle more power. But I'm not in the type of situation you are with cone area limitations.

IIRC there is a 4 inch coil Z. There is a guy on here using them

The 4 inch coil Z is a proto type, at some point it may or may not be available. A 4 inch coil would be the way to go IMO as well for this kind of power, a 3 inch coil you better be good at doing recones, cuz you will go thru em.

Because the 4 inch coils "we" are talking about handle 5k+

A 4 inch coil has more metal then a 3 inch coil(obvious), more metal means more surface area to shed heat, heat is the enemy when you are talking daily and 7k in the same sentence, simple as that.

Holy piss... A Neo with a 4 inch coil? Badass...

But seriously any Neo is out of the price budget given. Even the Level 6's might be with team DC pricing... Might've been a bad idea to change bro!

Whoever said the dd z 4" proto, if you want to shell out like $3000 for one sub, more power too you. I will challenge you though, I will take the same $3000 and buy subs and amps and be louder!

Maybe, I'm starting to look at Crossfire right now. And if I have to I might run 4 15"s. The Budget isn't set in stone at 2k, just close to it.

Well duh, if you have a sub and amps and they only have a sub of course you will be louder.

See, this is what I keep thinking, I could spend 2k on 2 18"s or $1600 on 4 Mayhem 15"s
