alenv10
MDF 3/4 sheet is about $40 and i was wondering if anyone has built a box out of particle board, particle board sheet cost $15... look and feels strong enough, just dont know if it would leak air?? NOTHING DOWN HERE YET OBSIDIAN FTW
Chris Hammer
Its brittle and lacks the strength mdf has. seal it real well. I would just pay the extra 25 get MDF or even quality birch at a lumber yard.. Skullz
Only if you are in a real pinch at this point in time and plan to rebuild it when you have the funds to do in mdf. PB is ok for trying new box designs your not familiar with as to keep the cost low enough to try many box configurations out. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
Wallaceman
home depot sells MDF for $30. if you use particle board dont spend a lot of time on the box, use longer screws and seal it up nice. If you can just get MDF, way easier to work with as well. Just be honest, it's always a work in progress with ever changing plans.

I agree with Skullz..it will allow you to play with different designs until you find the good one and then go from there in MDF. But imo its not as good as mdf. I might use it as a temporary thing but it wont last as long. MY BUILD *****http://tinyurl.com/gmcbuild***** Vehicles 2005 GMC Canyon CB1000r - Currently where any future funds are going. I didn't even know about MDF. Used to build for all my friends 25 bux + materials. lol OP - It is more important to predrill with PB though... Daniel Shepard
I have never had issues with pb. I have built many a boxes out of it. I understand mdf is a bit more solid but I have yet to hear a sound difference. I would say go for it bud, plus you dont have to predrill:)
