OrionStang Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 Since i've switched focus on the Mustang to performance, i'm considering losing the rear D6500 and the 4 runs of 1/0 that goes with it. I am only running the Sundown 200.4, ~about 800 watts. If I add a second set of components, it will drop the ohms and the amp will be doing ~1200 watts. Is my DC 270XP and XS S1200 (no extra batteries) enough to cover the 800watts? 1200? I think it will be ok, just like to hear what others have to say. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread

I just wouldnt run it for long periods at full tilt with the car off but you will be perfect with running it with the car on. I doubt you will have voltage drop and if you do it will be a small amount. My only recommendation just in case you switch back into car audio or want to upgrade a little down the line would be to keep a single run of positive and negative going from front to back. Because im running two AA 10's in awesome IB setup off the rear channels. That should be way more than enough power. kickass audio Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 I know its not the same model battery you have but i had a s3400 that is the next step up from your front battery and my stock 120 amp alt on my old car and had a amp that did 1400w rms at a 4 ohm bridge and i didnt really have too much voltage drop unless i went full tilt at idle. If i gave it some gas or was driving around it wouldnt really make the lights flicker or drop lower than 13.8 which i dont think is too bad for just an upgraded battery without the big-3 being done at that time. When i took that same setup and threw my mechman 250 amp alt in i had 0 voltage drop and i also did the big-3 on that too. You will be just fine with your setup Ken. edit: Just something i heard Matt at mechman say about meades alt for his ISF that if you have a smaller pulley on your alternator and you race the engine that you can over spin the alt and burn it out from having it spin too fast.
