bkolfo4
to your ear i bet the 12s sound louder. cant compete with cone area. but termlab may think different with all this tallk about actual linear displacement or air displacement 8 12's with 6.5mm Xmax will NOT have more displacement than 1 18 with 23.5mm Xmax. BL force, power handling, no one cares about any other parameters? To the ear will depend on more than cone area. I can build 2 different boxes with the same driver and make you swear the one with less SPL on the meter is the louder one by ear. What if the 18 will handle 3000 watts, but the 8 12's will only handle 1600? What is the 18 is very high BL and sensitivity, and the 12's are suck a$$ $59 Walmart specials? You cannot make this comparison based on just cone area. Sorry. Edit - he posted drivers while I was typing! All thing equal except the enclosure? You have room for the proper enclosure for 8 12's? Chris Hammer
Do it..if it sucks sell em on craigslist...I would spray or cover all the dust caps though lol I think both in optimal boxes the 12's might "sound" louder but no one can tell u... Both could be equally as loud texhnicaly but port sub placement and little shit like moving it visors can remove or add tenths or more to your score..so if the 18" has better place cement and the 12's do not u might lose...who knows lol MY BUILD *****http://tinyurl.com/gmcbuild***** Vehicles 2005 GMC Canyon CB1000r - Currently where any future funds are going. ChevyBoy95
i would do the 8 12s, then when funds allow, junk the hifonics and go to 8 level 4 12s, or sa 12s, etc, and have a monster system. bighossf150
thiz is a typical mikey bates question Haha x2. He's not gonna do 8 12's. Imo id just swap the level 4 for like a level 5, hdc4, or sp4 and throw 5k at it. fecupe2001
i wouldn´t waste my time, room and money building with those 8 subs while i can get a badass 18" sub and test a lot until you find how it sounds the best to your ears, but that´s just my opinion... P.S: The 5800 vs 5900 gave me a big lol, thanks I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains.
