Another thing to look at is that you are starting/stopping a lot making deliveries. Making a stop then accelerating all that weight can make a difference. Takes a lot more energy to move more weight. Once you get going its not an issue. I notice when carrying around a few friends in my car it takes my car forever to get up to speed. Of course none of the weight is noticed until I decelerate or accelerate.

My dad has a 2500 diesel, and he took a hunting trip out to Colorado, we live in Ohio He had a double axle trailer with 2 quads on it, and a ton of gear on the trailer and in the truck bed. He was taking 5 other guys out as well. All around 230ish lbs. He said he was going 80 mph all the way there. I called bullshit. He said it takes awhile to get going that fast, but once you get going it takes little energy to keep going. He had around 20 mpg all the way out. When normally it gets 22.

So I'm willing to be if you were going on a highway somewhere your mpg wouldn't change much. It's sorta like city vs highway mpg. Your going to get robbed a lot more city than you will highway will all that weight.

I actually get better gas mileage with my 500 lb system, simply because I don't drive my truck like a bat outta hell anymore lol.

Excellent point. I never thought about that. My city must have dropped by like 10 but highway probably stayed around the same. Well no more big systems for me while I still have this job.

I think the lesson is, yes weight and additional drag on your engine reduce your mpg, but not an unbearable amount. Otherwise kingofpsyclone would not move his truck. Even with his THOUSANDS of lbs of batteries, subs, box, amp racks, amps, wires, rims, the list goes on. I bet it's over 4,000 lbs. his mpg is 8 city. With an excursion tht would most likely get about 12 if it was stock.

The drastic mpg losses are most likely do to "Sanford and sons cars" that have shit for springs and when you put 400 lbs of beat in the trunk, suddenly your trunk drags the ground and your front end is like a huge scoop for air.

Run this one by you. Have you ever tried to run directly into 40 mph winds (city speed) or 70 mph winds (highway) with a huge jacket on and jeans? It's a lot harder then if you were wearing a bathing suit and a tank top right?

Now if your front end is sticking up because your trunk is squatted, you lose all your aerodianamics. Effectively changing your car from something that can reduce wind drag, to making your front end a huge wind scoop.

I'd be willing to wager my bottom dollar that this is what's reducing your mpg so bad. Would also explain why when you put better springs your car handledmbettermandmgot closer to normal mpg.

Warning, yes more weight and drag on the engine will reduce mpg. But less then 20% difference between loaded and stock, depending on how elaborate your build is. Not the proclaimed 50% or 70% of mpg like stated above.

My truck sits level to the ground with a DC lvl 3 15 in it, down firing box with a C&D battery and a DC 1.2k and a Polk 1100.5. Its rated 19/23 and my commute is 80 miles per day and is about half cit half highway. Before my install I consistently got between 21-22 mpg. Now I get between 19-21. However just last month a buddy and I took it to a car show 5.5 hours away and got 23.5 on the way down and 24.5 on the way back. 2 dudes and all our stuff for a weekend and it got better than estimated mileage. It all has to do with driving style

If he actually drove it, he could average 12-15 mpg. Wonder of the old mighty 7.3l Turbo Diesel :)

He wont drive it though, too top heavy and sketchy. Heard him say it on one of his videos. He probably pays twice for diesel for the tow vehicle than what the X could get.

My truck decreased a bit, I spend a bit more time sitting in parking lots banging on it, and dashing around town because of it!

I get better mpg, when I had my wall. Simply the fact, mentioned above. You can't drive fast, or like a retard. And having about 70hp only goes so far! Only think that sucked about the wall, It was hard to get up to speed on the highway, going from 45-65 sucked. Floored or not. Other then that. it was fine.

Also had a 2nd alt on it too, even when no load on it, still dragged it down. So, put that on a switch. Now I just took it off and put my power steering back on. For now.

This would make sense in my case, got 300lbs in the trunk of my gtp and the back end is about a inch or more lower than the front and the front sits up and i lost around 4-5 mpg with the install, wondering if i should get some 1" ride height springs for the back or some 1 1/2" lowering springs for the front
