Mechman Alternators

Giving Mechman another shot.. 11/15 Got my Alt.

Recommended Posts

Came home to a nice package sitting at the door waiting.

Quality seems much better than the last alt I got from Mechman a few years ago.

I have ordered a new belt that is 3" longer than this one. I am going to try a few different pulley positions and sizes to get better belt wrap on the stock location alt.

Just a thought, what would it do to the output of the alternator if I were to put a larger puller on the front of the alt, something about the size of a stock pulley? Would this be worth doing to get better belt wrap vs having the smaller pulley but having belt slip?

  • 2 weeks later...

You can go to a larger diameter pulley, but it will reduce your output at idle. This is why we don't recommend running a 340 amp unit on a 4.6/5.4 Ford.

The 250 w/ the larger pulley makes great output at idle with the larger pulley, and doesn't really slip the belt.

Adding an idler pulley on one side would be your best bet.
