CJ18
Came home to a nice package sitting at the door waiting. Quality seems much better than the last alt I got from Mechman a few years ago. I have ordered a new belt that is 3" longer than this one. I am going to try a few different pulley positions and sizes to get better belt wrap on the stock location alt. CJ18
Oh belt wrap is complete shit on the stock alt. I have a few ideas that I am going to try to get better wrap on the left side, there isnt much I can do on the right. It already squeals like a little bitch. CJ18
Just a thought, what would it do to the output of the alternator if I were to put a larger puller on the front of the alt, something about the size of a stock pulley? Would this be worth doing to get better belt wrap vs having the smaller pulley but having belt slip?
MECHMAN
You can go to a larger diameter pulley, but it will reduce your output at idle. This is why we don't recommend running a 340 amp unit on a 4.6/5.4 Ford. The 250 w/ the larger pulley makes great output at idle with the larger pulley, and doesn't really slip the belt. Adding an idler pulley on one side would be your best bet. Quote 1-888-MECHMAN www.Mechman.com [email protected]
CJ18
This is the best I am able to get. I lowered the pulley directly to the left as far as I could and still have belt clearance.

CJ18
I will be calling about the dual idler setup this week. I think I can make it work with my bracket.
