hdorre
Ive only built slot port enclosures, and Ill be building a box that incorpororates a center port.. so I have a few questions. Lets say that I was designing a box in Torres that has a 2.5" wide port thats 20" long. The width between the red walls woild be 2.5", and the width between the green walls would be 1.25" (half) per side, right? How does port length work though? I understand that I need to measure in the center. How is the port length divided between the two green sides in the back? hdorre
it should show it in the cut list I prefer to make my own cut list though..and this is why: I just used a square box in the OP for simplicity. n8ball2013
ill be the first to say i hate the center port that bends. do an l port on the one side is so much easier. It will allow your box to be slightly smaller too. but since you have a funky shaped design it may be the only way to do it. GAY. Im going to be no hepl on this one. I cant remember if the leftover width is divided on each side or if its carried over to both sides. Ill play around with designs that have "L" ports. I just didnt want too many bends. Im pretty much forced to have an odd shaped box.. hdorre
So Nate, I looked at "L" ports again. I have more port area, more airspace, and lower tuning with a smaller box lol I have one concern though... are there too many bends? Also, in this design there are ~4.5" between the port opening and the back of the sub. Will I have to worry about unloading? try to see if you could port it at the back wall of the box port facing up? See if these pics can be any help in case you go for the shared port: L1 + L2 = L (the physical length of the port as shown in your calculator). In case you are doing 45s in the box, you can do them like this: 2 1/2" wide was used but can be other number that as long as the displacement of the parts that are not inside the port is deducted from the net volume. hdorre
That answered my questions perfectly. hdorre
So, I spent a few hrs messing with designs.. and this is probably the one Im gonna use. I was going to use a center port because its different... but traditional "L" ports are MUCH easier lol Im planning on blocking off the "cubby" between the aqua and green. Theres only .049 of a cube in there. My calculated net volume and tuning are with the cubby blocked off. The lines between the sub cutouts represent sub depth. Box Specs Port Area: 16.88 sqin Gross Volume: 1.687 ft^3 - 0.16 ft^3 (sub displacement) - 0.049 ft^3 (block off cubby) Net volume: 1.13 ft^3 Fb: 34.16Hz Port Specs Height: 7.5” Width: 2.25” Length: 30” Cutout Sheet (1) Red: 19.75 x 7.5” (2) Orange: 6.25 x 7.5” (2) Yellow: Look at Paper 9” Depth (1) Dark Green: 8.75 x 7.5 (1) Light Green: 2.25 x 7.5 (1) Aqua: 7.5 x 7.5 (1) Blue: 7.75 x 7.5 (1) Pink: 37 x 7.5 (2) Light Brown: 8.25 x 7.5 (2) Dark Brown: 6 x 7.5 Port Dimensions (Down Middle) First: 7.375” Second: 6.75” Third: 5.25” Fourth: 10.625” 7.375 + 6.75 + 5.25 + 10.625 =30” Soo... yay or nay? Does anyone have any tips, or does this design look solid?
