DD1 HV vs TPI 440 Plus Video inside.

Recommended Posts

Damn I wasnt trying to start a shit storm here, just wanted to show another video of the DD1 and Oscope being used together.

Hugh I am not calling you a liar at all, I do believe that you are telling the truth, but you know how this is, this is the internet bro. Only way to prove what you are saying is with video proof. Anyone can get behind a keyboard and claim whatever they want. Not calling you out, but would like to see video proof of what you are saying.

he is lying out of his ass. Nobody gains or loses 6.5db even from going from ear to scope or from scope to dd-1. I could understand a little bit because i have seen people gain and i have seen them lose some.....but 6.5db? ya right.

its hard to gain 1db with tuning.. 6.5 is just over exaggerating. some people cant even gain 2db with double the power and cone area

exactly my point. Some gain, some lose but its never more then about .5 - 1.5 db. I seen more people gain db though by using a DD-1 then lose it. I never claim that as one of the things it does, but i have seen it. It can go both ways depending on how messed up your gains were to begin with.

Well, I always thought the Distortion Detector was built to detect Distortion above 1% thd, which is good for looking for sound quality out of the amps, while an Oscope is built to detect clipping, so even with an unclipped signal, you could still have like 3% thd. So tuning with an Oscope to the point before clipping could possibly be a little louder on the meter, though I don't know about a 6 db difference, that's a huge jump unless you have a very dirty amp that will do rated power but at like 5% thd for example, and setting at 1% thd can make you lose a lot of power to be clean power.

I like the DD-1, and I think it's a great tool, and I have saved a lot of amps from being overheat by tuning with it over the ears that tuned them.

So in my view, they are 2 different tools built to do 2 different things, in my opinion

You're also welcome to correct me on my statement, I'm noob that's still learning.

Steve, and Hugh, I see no need to fight about this.

if i didnt have a lunch date with my wife today, it would totally be worth reinstalling my amp, batts, box, and driving 2 hours each way to savannah to get the dd-1 and then 14 hours each way back and forth to texas to get the subs back just to make a video to prove something on the internets.....

Exacltly! This is the internet! Words mean nothing here, pictures and video are like gold! That is the only way to prove your statements are true.

the funny thing is, i go out of my way to NOT discredit the scope when selling my product. I discredit the ear-o-meter and the DMM for setting gains but NOT the scope. I tell people NOT do buy the DD-1 if they don't believe in it but to AT LEAST get a scope. I am not anti-scope. But the tales are tall if you thnk people gonna believe 6.5db increase. That is ridiculous as it gets. After reading what you wrote about the overlap tracks it is obvious nobody has ever taught you the basics and what the -5, -10 tracks are actually there for.

The measurement the DD1 takes is different then the measurement you see in a scope.

A scope is showing you a sinewave. As the voltage increases you will see the wave square off when the signal can no longer produce that wave effectively A DD1 measures THD. The DD1 measures the point at which the distortion ( not square wave) becomes dirty in the signal past it's preset reading point. Now, there can be a wide gap between the point where the dd1 reads at it's set point to the point where you see the scope signal start to square off. This can be a big THD percentage number depending on the product. It'snot hard to read up on exactly what Total Harmonic distortion is guys.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

I have to agree with this one. About as crazy as the DD1 blowing an amp.

What surprises me is that someone claims 6db difference from tuning amps with different equipment then acts like we are stupid for not believing him? Didn't it surprise you when it happened? It never crossed your mind that people wouldn't believe it?
