Alternator Bolt Extender?

Recommended Posts

Trying to do the Big 3 upgrade on my 2009 Camry Se, and there is absolutely no room to put a 1/0 lug on the alternator bolt. Does anyone know of a bolt extender or something along those lines for this application?

Could you post a picture?

I don't think there is such a thing, but maybe we could brainstorm something

If you could post a picture that'd be great, but most times you can go to a fastener shop or machine shop and they should have the elongated bolt you're looking for. All you'll need to give them is the thread size and length you need.

I think he's talking about the stud that's coming off the actual alternator....no room for another ring terminal to fit and allow the nut to go back on

if its the output stud, and you have the ability/skills as well as the room to do this. give it a try..

take a piece of threaded rod, or even chop the threads off a bolt, ( id use 3/8") then on the side you cut, center punch the center of it, then drill and tap to the thread and pitch of the output stud. then double nut your " new " stud and screw that onto the output stud and use the double nuts to get it nice and tight. now you have a larger output stud that is as long as you need it and also bigger to fit larger terminals onto it.

Well I figured that's the bolt he was talking about. he can have a longer one made if the length is the issue if there is a length and a clearance issue then He'll have to try Fox's^ idea or have an L bolt made. Its basically the threaded bolt coming out of the alt just in an L shape to allow for not only a longer mounting fixture but all the clearance you would need. Its a little bit of work installing them on the alt but it can be done.
