My buddy is getting the AQ 2200 and has 2 d2 subs. He's got really good electrical but is it safe to run the AQ 2200 at .5 daily? He's pretty conservative so I don't think it will be a problem but I wanted opinions! Thx in advance

If his electrical is as good as you say, then it wouldn't be a problem running it at .5. There are a lot of people that have ran them at .5 without issues on good electrical.

Yes, but why not just buy a bigger amp to begin with and run the power your looking to run without stressing the amp unnecessarily.

It should be, but beware there is still a chance of blowing it! YMMV

It will be fine if his electrical is as good as he thinks it is.

Edit: Don't know why people don't just do this when they're in this position, but you can just dial the gain back to put out 2200 at .5 ohm with a DMM. Less stress on the amp and you will get the same power as if you were at 1 ohm. Still more stressful on the amp because it will be at a lower impedance of course, but not AS stressful versus if it were set to max with a DD-1 or whatever.

Another one...? Damn. Almost any 1-ohm stable amp, even an Audiopipe, will run at .5 with the right electrical because of impedance rise. HOWEVER the additional current draw can stress your amp even if the voltage stays up, your amp will never see a load below its NOMINAL impedance so wiring below one can allow for a dangerously low impedance. Playing below or above tuning too far can cause your impedance rise to be near 0, pop goes the amp.

The reason he is running at .5 for the time being is that he eventually wants to run 1 on each sub @ 1ohm

If he's already doing it why ask? Like I said, it's fine on most amps. Everyone so strongly opposes it because it's usually a question being asked by a noob with no business even attempting to run at .5. It's really not a big deal otherwise.

Ya I'm not new at running amps at .5 haha I was just wondering if people had expierience with it at .5. I've had 2 of them just never wired that low. Also he hasn't done it yet. He can't afford to buy the subs and both amps at the same time.

Why doesn't he run at 2ohms until he gets the other sub? Instead of dropping the load he can wire up and be safe until he gets the other sub and is able to run both at 1ohm.
