gibblegeibel
i know this my sound like a vs thread. but i was wondering which is better for a big three upgrade crimping or Soldering? i know they both have there drawbacks. which of these methods of putting your connections on is better? or would you be better off i you did both? crimp the connection the solder it afterwards. sprkn_ranger
Crimping is easier to get right if you have the right crimper, but if both methods are done right there won't be a difference in quality from my understanding. It is more difficult to get the soldering method right, but it just takes some practice and basic understanding of what your doing. Carbon
If you live near a battery shop they can probably handle it for you no problem. My shop does $2 per connection. Including the copper terminal, hydraulic crimping and dual layer heat shrink.
Alvi45
Then soldering would be your best bet its easy .. ^^^ he is right with the right crimp not much of a difference between soldering
gibblegeibel
ok thanks guys. but which has a better hold for the wires to stay in the terminal or connector
Alvi45
soldering is more secure but performance wise practically the same as crimping

If you have a decent hydraulic crimper you won't need the solder after. The terminals and wire will be fused together in a solid connection. i shook this one kids hand and it just folded in mine. long story short i fucked his girlfriendso.. yeah.. You want this to happen to you? Give decent handshakes people. I was gifted with an innate ability to distribute wholesale ass beatings in a timely and orderly fashion. This^ You don't want to just stick the ring terminal in a vice and crimp it that way. You want to have a hydraulic crimper. Or any style crimper that basically makes the wire and the ring terminal one. sprkn_ranger
soldering is more secure but performance wise practically the same as crimping This isn't exactly true, I remember reading a write up (I want to say skittlesisgood did it) that showed there was no difference in connection strength between soldering and crimping if done properly. A good hydraulic crimper will almost fuse the terminal to the wire creating a VERY strong bond. I've heard of strength test showing the cable actually break before the crimp connection failing.
